Does this number tell me anything about a piano?

A piano that's for sale has had the name french-polished off. The owner doesn't know anything about it himself. I saw this number inside: C&S 153653. I put it into Google but got nothing.

I'm not a piano expert by any means, but I'm pretty good at searching for information. :pac:

Apparently it was sold by Crane & Sons Ltd. of Liverpool. The serial numbering is unclear which (it seems from my reading) is common with pianos. But, the company only began using the Crane & Sons name in the 1920's. Before that they were Crane Bros.

This company ran in a similar way to the guitar distributors of the 50's and 60's. Basically they bought a bunch of instruments from manufacturers and rebadged them with their own name. So, the maker is unclear.

Thanks Dord. Google has much for results for Crane & Sons than C&S so I'm off to do some reading. :)
