    Hi,

I'm heading home tomorrow for the weekend, and plan to leave the car in Dublin. I'm hoping to cycle from Clontarf to Dunshaughlin. This would be at the higher end of my spins, distance wise, even though it's not really that far. (Bit of a newbie!)

I was wondering would anyone know would say the N2, from Griffith Ave, and through Ratoath be any better / safer than through Fairview and directly onto the N3? I'd have less city traffic on the N2 route which would be a bonus for me!! Or any other route suggestions? The quays and onto the Park?

    Thanks!!

There won't be a difference in traffic between N2 & N3, which should be light on a Sunday. Probably fewer traffic lights on the N2 I think.

Looking at googlemaps there is an alternative route via hollystown and ratoath?

    Good Luck!

dont forget spare tubes, levers and pump etc :-)

Thanks for that, went the N2, was actually fairly grand. I'll bear the Hollystown route in mind in future.

Hope I don't get as wet on the way back tomorrow!

For future reference I'd stick with the N2 (The old N2) as there's a hard shoulder the whole way from Finglas to the roundabout near Ashbourne. If you take the Hollystown to Ratoath route it can be dodgy with cars speeding and the roads are narrow there. I commute from Ratoath to Finglas and have never gone the Hollystown way. I appreciate it would be quieter at weekends and it is a more scenic route just bear in mind the narrow roads and faster cars.

I'd +1 the Hollystown/Ratoath route, nice small roads with very good surfaces in places, particularly close to the city. Pancake flat. I have mainly cycled that way weekday evenings and the roads were very quiet. It is narrow all right but never had a problem, I think most commuters from Ratoath go in the N2 or N3.
