Are UPC rebranding to Chorus NTL?

They are. When is another matter :)

(The educated guess is that they've no desire to complete the UPC rebrand until the majority/all of their network is upgraded to the standard they want it to be at.)

Vans already have. You seem them driving around with designs akin to upc.nl saying "UPC". Why they're doing this fragmented (Business section rebranded, Website address rebranded, Vans rebranded) approach, without any indication to the general public of their long term plan to rebrand the whole thing, is beyond me.

Just saw a press release on the Silicon Republic website - http://www.siliconrepublic.com/news/article/13362/new-media/carphone-warehouse-to-sell-triple-play-tv-services

In the article it keeps refering to the company as Chorus NTL, and then says "Chorus NTL is a subsidiary of cable provider UPC".

I thought they were trying to drop Chorus NTL, and be known as UPC.

I think their intention is to re-brand Chorus & NTL as UPC, not the other way around. However, it's been such a messy re-brand it's not surprising that it's confusing people.

    The plan was :

    1) Separate brands: "Chorus" and "NTL"
    2) "Chorus & NTL"
    3) "ChorusNTL"
    4) UPC Ireland

To make matters worse, UPC across Europe was re-branding with a new logo in the middle of all this :) UPC Ireland rolled out some DVRs with the old logo!! *LOL*

    Totally confusing!

    UPC Logos:

Old one on the left, new one on the right :

    Confused yet?

Part of the problem is that they got their fingers burnt badly with the NTL rebrand. The original NTL plan was that they would keep the Cablelink brand until new services were launched and that they would then become NTL. It took them a lot longer to launch the new services across their network (eg. when they first launched digital TV, only Tallaght could get it!) Then there was all the trouble with them pulling their investment in HFC and that dragged the brand down further.

So its not surprising that their being cautious about making that final leap from Chorus NTL to UPC. Until they can do it properly - unlike the last time - they're not going to do it fully. Mind you, the rebranding of the vans means that they might be ready to do it soon. Either that, or Virgin Media will eventually tell them enough is enough (Virgin still own the NTL brand and indeed are still using it for their own SME/corporate business).

As long as they're still ponying up the dough, I think Virgin will find it in their hearts to forgive them :p .
