    explain?

making a statement about it being better when in love is fine , but for the moment, randomers in nightclubs and my 2 playthings will do just fine

Its all personal choice I suppose. I dont know would I feel as comfortable with a "randomer," although I probably would.

I was pretty young when I first had sex - 15. Any comparisons?

I think its too young. 16 maybe, but at 15 I just didnt have a ****ing clue! And Ive enjoyed it way more in the 3 and a half years since.

Proper sex education needs to be in this country.

I don't particularly want to have sex, and I'm a 16 year old guy. I'd probably be too embarassed to admit that I don't want to to my friends. It's a kind of weird backwards situation, but I guess not wanting to and not getting any is preferable to wanting to but not getting any, so I suppose I'm better off than many my age.

It's not like I don't think about it (a lot), just can't imagine myself wanting to actually do it any time soon.

Im right there with ya pygma, 16 too and really couldnt give a crap about having sex, why the hell should we? I dont know about everyone else but i have enuff crap to sift through in my life atm and adding trying to be one of the 'cool' kids by boinking some slut in an alley aint exactly what i want to do! When i feel i want to be sexually active i will go out there and do who ever but til then i really couldnt care less.

Lost mine due to pressure. It was a friendship thing. Really regret it now because when I did actually feel ready to have sex with a boyfriend a year and a half later, HE was apprehensive because he was a virgin and I wasn't. I think his ego was a bit bruised or something . Anyway, it did play a huge role that we didn't lose it to each other. It was kind of awkward and nothing I could say or do put his mind at ease because I knew the only thing he kept thinking about was whether he was doing it "right" or not. Broke up a month later.

    College though. Great fun. :pac::pac::pac:

18, virgin, don't care. I don't understand the pressure around sex these days... Is it some right of passage that's been passed down from generation to generation? No. It means jack noodles.

Actually i'd say about 50% of the lads in my year are virgins (6th year), probably even more.

But hey? What's college really for eh? :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,115 ✭✭✭magicianz

College is for holding hands and playing rousing games of scrabble! :-D

I think that its just sad that having sex is on teenagers minds! Its secondary school! Your meant to have parties and spend your summers lying around in a park relaxing with friends, not trying to take advantage of some drunk girl/guy or whatever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 342 ✭✭phic

the whole virgin/not virgin thing is ridiculous.
There are much better ways to define oneself than if having had sex or not.
It's really not that life altering experience that there need to be so much fuss over it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,295 ✭✭✭Lollipop95

With some teens, the law makes no difference. Some don't care. They just hook up with some random guy and get themselves up the duff.

I think it was 16 but it was increased to 17 in the last year or two. Not 100% sure of that though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,440 ✭✭✭✭Piste

No it was always 17. People (mainly teenage girls) think it's 16 because they read British magazines like Sugar and Bliss which harp on about the age of consent being 16 and they automatically think it applies here too.

If you are in with a group of people who actually care about whether or not you are a virgin, then its time to get new friends.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 182 ✭✭FredBaby!

i know a few (ok alot) of people who claim they have lost their virginity but, really, have they looked in the mirror lately!? they have faces only a mother could love like.

Virgins are cool, liars are not.

I don't want this thread to go off topic or to include potentially flame inciting posts. So while you are perfectly entitled to start a new thread on young people's attitudes to large age gaps in a relationship, don't comment on what Aisling has said above.

You can have some banter on this thread, just don't let it spin off into flames or off topic discussion.

    Thanks,
    JC
