Can I offer a little constructive advice? Have a read up on the author Paul Howard first, I think understanding him and his view points really help before you dive right into the books. I dont mean to be presume, but if his books were written with a NS view point, you would definitely enjoy his umm.. escapades

That is what editors are forI have the original print of the book before they re-released it and its painful to get through. If you think the current ones the use of roysh ect to much then that takes the biscuit, using the American Physcho descriptions of people to full effect.
Any examples for me?A few things annoy me about Howard though. He contradicts himself a lot in the books which is annoying.
That is what most authors hope forAlso for all the effort he puts in to actually making the books not just completely stereotyped, in every interview he comes out with all the tired old cliches about south Dublin, he has seriousely milked that cow enough already tbh. Its gotten to the stage where he is probably a millionaire due to the books

Why would you attach a particular car to the S/side? They are everywhere because of their reliability. Everybody knows that VW's are built like tanks, and have a slow depreciation rate. Thats not S/side snobbery, that would be common senseFinally, Howard does or used to drive a black Golf GTI apparently, for all his abuse of the southside scene its ironic that he himself bought the very wagon he slags continuosely. 0 -

You couldn't force me to choose which of the books I love the most. But one that does stick out in my mind a lot is "The curious incident of the dog in the nightdress". Trying to explain what I was laughing at to anyone around me was impossible by just reading out a paragraph.A friend gave me Orange mocha chip, and I cried laughing reading it. Goys it's loike totally brill roysh!

I'm just in from a pub related outing, excuse the spelling.That is what editors are for
I know but I was just mentioning it. I have the original book(only a few hundred printed, might be worth something some day ha) which was only edited insofar as each column was in the Tribune. This would be a typical paragraph for example;
''The goys and I head to Eddies in Stilliorgan, we're talking me, Christian and JP. After five minutes, in comes Sorcha, roysh. Her hair is tied back in a scrunchy, roysh. She's wearing a pink aertex, collars up of course, roysh...''
Literally every character introduced like that, 'roysh' in every sentance. Tbh I don't know how I stuck through it. I'm delighted he ditched that after a couple of years.Any examples for me?
In the first book, the captain of their team(a pretty big character) is supposed to be a chap repeating his Leaving Cert for the 4th or 5th time just to win the cup(people do actually do this, maybe not 4 or 5 times though). However, in pretty much every book for the last while, that character has been erased from history. Instead its said that Ross captained the team which he definately didn't in the first book. There are plenty of other things but I don't want to go on and on.That is what most authors hope for
I'm not begrudging him making top money, what annoys me is that his interviews are always the exact same. Even though the books actually have a little depth to them, he just comes out and says stuff like ''Roysh''(expecting everybody to laugh at this 'funny' word which he has used repeatedly for 10 years) and describes his experiences at Leinster schools rugby games even though the character in the book is now almost 30 and that 'chapter' of his life isn't the main deal anymore. Becasue he uses that car as a stick to beat down his main character. Read the books again. The black GTI with alloys is completely stereotyped in the books and by Howard in interviews, just annoys me.0
