just wanted to say that myself and my fiance are getting married next june and have already been out to see karina from algarve wedding planners and she was totally amazing at her job. we told her what we thought we were looking for and she spent the whole day and took us round loads of prospective places as well as a few of her own favourite venues and she really couldn't do enough for us.

we had met P&K and DC at the wedding show in the RDS a few months ago and decided we needed to take a look for ourselves, so we went out for a week and found the perfect spot for the wedding.

we also managed to see double cocktail perform whilst we were out there, totally by chance and I have to say we were very VERY impressed. as good as they look on their youtube video's etc. you really need to see them perform to see how good they really are. i was actually taken totally by surprise at how good a singer stephanie is, i don't think the youtube vids do them justice at all, i think you need to see them do their thing to understand what i mean.

anyway, 2 thumbs up for paula and karina and another two thumbs up for david and stephanie, i can wholeheartedly recommend them both and i know our wedding is in the safest hands. :)

thanks for that vibe. We're going on next week to have a look at venues and I'm very excited (both for the trip and the planning). Where did you pick?

I wish I was going!! My church is in Loule and the venue is a marquee near Faro, exactly what I want which is great! Most of my guests are going out for a week and so we choose Albufeira as the place everyone will stay! Have fun out there!!

we're just having a blessing and reception in the Algarve, in a lovely place called Os Augustas (possibly spelt wrong), about 30 minutes from faro. it's sort of like a colonial country house/plantation kind of thing with orange groves all around it and cobble stones everywhere, it's gorgeous. i'm a bloke and even i'm excited about it! :)

we're going it do the registry office thing here in ireland before we go, just with 2 witnesses (2 close friends that can't make the wedding) to save on the extra paperwork needed to get married over there so that's another thing out of the way.

if you're going out there, speak to david and stephanie from double cocktail and find out if they're playing anywhere and go and see them, they're excellent. :)

we spent the whole week with a hire car and drove around the whole of the algarve and saw pretty much everything, so we know we're doing it in the right place. we're aiming for around 60 guests, so fingers crossed they all turn up or it's going to look a little bit sparse!

mind you, you never klnow how many will actually go.

karina was telling us of one of their previous wedding where a couple invited 150 guests and had planned on maybe 70-100 turning up out of that number, but almost every single person came and it was a mad panic to try and fit everyone in, so you just never know. :)

Here's the link to some pics i took at the place we're having it anyway.

we all know that the bloke is just another accessory for the woman's big day, us guys are under no illusions. ;)

seriously though, for 60-100 people, that's the perfect place. we did over 850km in the car for the week we had it, so trust me that we went everywhere!

here's a few more pics i uploaded already, but i have a load more to go through, we took about 600. :)

Hiya, wedding location sounds fab! My partner and I are also getting married legally in cork first intending on doing it with 2 witnesses but when my mother got wind of that she put a stop to it so now its the two immediate families, witnesses, their partners and a small "Party" back in their house afterwards! I'm the eldest, it's easy to go along with them on some things! Then for the main wedding in Portugal I have 130 cofirmed guests approximately, thats just accounting for those that have booked flights and accomodation at this stage! My venue is just outside faro and church in Loule, cannot wait for it now!
Have seen Double Cocktail in action and have them booked which is great and I met the photographer/videographer so the main things are booked up which is all good.
Is it this year you plan to get married?

We're back :-) The Algarve was fantastic and it was lovely to see some sun. We saw lots of venues and I think we are down to choosing between 2
The Tivoli Carvoeira (Stunning scenery, reasonably private but expensive and a little out moded) and the Santa Eulalia (great location for guests, good value but not as scenic or private). We looked at other places but these are the two favourites.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 fufu1981

Well done, narrowed done to two places!! Generally venues, meals, etc are quite pricey overall in the Algarve but can include a lot more than here aswell so makes up for it :)
Weather over there at the moment is supposed to be in the mid thirties! Hope ye had a great holiday and fun choosing venues! Would love to be going for a week soon!
I'm sure either of the two places below will be beautiful go with what you and your partner really want and you can't go far wrong :)

Thanks a mill for posting that link to the photos and for the other info too. Do you mind if I ask roughly what the marquee is costing you?? We're getting married out there next year and are flying out in two weeks to do some detective work! Os Augustas looks like it's definitely worth a visit!

do you have planners booked? it's a private residence, so you can't just drive in there. if you think you'll save yourself some money by doing it yourself, you'll probably just end up spending the whole day worrying about everything instead of enjoying what should be the happiest day of your life. the 500 euro that you'd pay to paula and karina from the algarve wedding planners is so far, hands down the best 500 euro i think i've ever spent and i wouldn't hesitate in recommending them to anyone EVERYONE as an essential part of a wedding in the algarve. they are pretty much as essential as the dress or the cake, imho. what tey don't know about weddings in the algarve isn't worth knowing and their service is worth twice what they charge.

sorry, i didn't mean to oversell it, but they really are THAT good at what they do and they give you so much care and attention you won't ever regret it for a minute.

sorry, back on track now. :)

we're planning on 50-60 people now (afaik) and it's going to be 125 euro a head for the whole day with an open bar, 5 courses inc. duck, tenderloin of beef and monkfish and fancy stuff like that as well as all the wine, canapes, nibbles later and the open bar and what have you. all the bells and whistles anyways. :)

its a bargain for what we are getting, esp. with the open bar which a lot of places wouldn't do (stung by too many irish weddings would be my guess!) and the setting is perfect as well.

That's ok! You're not over selling, it's just good to hear that you are so excited about it all :D

€125 per head is actually very good considering the open bar and the type of menu you've mentionned there. Will have to take a look.

€500 is a great price for the planners too - I heard that those particular planners usually charge €750.

    hi ladies

i am getting married in the coming year and i am thinking about portugal...around lagos...i was wondering if you girls could recommend reception venues? i am organising this myself as i don't have the funds for a planner....double redundancy etc.....your expert opinions would be gratefully accepted.

    cheers

hi yea.has anyone got married in a marquee in Ireland, that doesent cost a total fortune. We are trying to organize one it looks like it will be a lot more expensive than a hotel, any advice, please;)

we may have got a special deal because we met them at the RDS wehn they were over for the bridal show, i'm not sure.

not trying to scare you or anything, but that's like deciding not to service your car to save money. i'd be of a very strong belief that not employing planners would be a false economy and that using paula and karina will actually save you money over doing it yourself due to their unprecedented local knowledge and deals with suppliers, not to mention for overcoming the language barrier.

you're going to need your own thread (or change your venue by about 2000 miles), this is about weddings in the algarve. ;)

just a quick question for those who've gotten married in portugal already, can you offically get married in a church there??? a few people have freaked me out by asking this! apparently in france you can't get married in a church unless you're in the country 30 days prior to the wedding so am wondering is there any such red tape in portugal?!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 fufu1981

Hi there, it is true about the legal side, you need to be in the country 30 days prior to the wedding day. I'm am getting married legally in Ireland and then having a church mass/blessing in Portugal, but doing the legal side here 2 months prior to that (Allowing enough time for all paperwork to be processed here and to be sent to priest in Portugal prior to the 30 day deadline) It was the same for my friend who married in Spain this year. So I would speak to my priest to get the bal rolling and book an appointment and date at your registry office

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

we're doing a registry office here in ireland a month before and just having a non-church blessing in the grounds of the house we're having the reception in.

we just heard back from stephanie and david from double cocktail and they just played their first wedding at our venue (os augustus) and siad it was excellent and everything was perfect, so we're dead chuffed with that. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 fufu1981

Oh thats fab news about DC!! Ya ye are doing the same this as us with regards to the legalities, has to be done and its no biggie!! Just a fromality unlike the real day!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

yeah, my other half's best mate can't make it to portugal for the wedding so we're going to have them (her + hubby) come and do the registry office thing with us to be our two witnesses so they can still be part of our big day, even if it is the secret bit. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 fufu1981

Thats a nice idea actually!! I tried to do the secret bit but was stupid enough to mention it to my mother! Told her was just me partner and 2 witnesses allowed on the day, she found out up to 40 were allowed and there are almost that many going! Few drinks and small buffet back at the house afterwards for immediate family. To me its just a formality tho!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

nope, this one will be ultra top secret. no mess, no fuss and NO family to make a hames of it on the day.
