Maths paper II

    How did you find maths II? I couldn't figure 1 part (b) out, the jeweller. I got 1.92 rings... Something tells me that's very wrong.

    Crap, I got 9.6!! I found the area and volume question to be surprisingly the hardest out of the bunch. The log tables were absolute ****!!! I spent most of my time on that question trying to figure what the tiny blobs were. I blundered all over Question 1.

    Also, there was no formula for the hemisphere so I just put the one for the sphere over 2. It still gives the same answers but would I lose marks for incorrect formula?

    You'd think for 103 Euro the goddamn SEC would give us decipherable log tables! What a joke.


    The rest of the questions were grand out. My histogram in question 6 was dodgy. I had to kinda guess Question 5 (c) (i) and I just assumed the triangle was isosceles so I could carry my answer to part 2. Couldn't figure out Question 4 (c) (ii).

    Another question for ye for question 3 (b) (ii). I said image C is Rotation 360 Degrees. Technically, that's correct, isn't it? Would I get marks?
    It was actually tougher than paper 1.

    On a brighter note all the theorems I predicted came up. :D The parellogram and equiangular triangles. Also, the predicted circum-circle. I think I've gotten a B overall now.

    Question 2 (c) (ii)
    I dunno about that. Were you not meant to use the points to get it in the form y-y1=m(x-x1)? Using the perpendicular slope of the line L. I dunno what you mean by the triangle bisected by the x axis. My triangle was fairly straight forward.

    As I expected it was easier than paper 1 but I ended up leaving some q's blank because SOMEHOW I lost a load of time somewhere and ended up having to skip some of the harder ones i could have potentially got marks in.

    I thought the jewler question was a bugger and ended up leaving most of that blank. And the one with the under side of the baloon :confused: I probably could have got that If i had had more time.

    I ended up having to start the histogram over again 3 times :pac: Annoyed the hell out of the examiner seeing as put my hand up for graph paper like 5 times throughout the exam :rolleyes::p

    The one in question 2 with the drawing of the lines was annoying :confused: I thought you could use any number you wanted for the filling in thing and ended up with 1.5 as my area :confused:

    All in all I thought it was graaaaaaaaaand. I'd say I got a B :D

    My triangle included the Y axis, most of L and most of K. It went down from 4.5 on the y to -2, and to 3 on the X

    I got an area of 9.75 units squared

    I'm hoping they give us most of the marks for just having it one decimal place off, because how I worked it out was right :)

    Uhh..thank god maths is done and over with
    Now to worry about business tomorrow -_-

    As far as I know they give 7 out of 10 for correct method but wrong answer but I could be wrong.

    Yeah sorry my answers for the ogive are probably wrong - I'm terrible at drawing them!
    I remember I got between 61 and 72 for part c (iv) so that was 11/75 x 100/1 which gave me a number I rounded up to 15? It was probably wrong though :(

    For the ogive on I went up and across and got 52 and 72 and took them away from eachother :confused:

    then got that as a percentage....Can't remember the answer though :confused:

    yeah paper was definately tough, although every question was approachable if I had the time to think it over .. all in all maths was very tough this year!

    Maths Higher Level, Paper 2, Question 1, B The gold ring question

    (i)
    4 x 3 x 2 = 24 cm3 of gold
    1cm3 = €400
    So 24 x 400 = €9600

    (ii)
    Cannot use cm3 volume as measurement is in mm.
    4 cm = 40 mm
    3 cm = 30 mm
    2 cm = 20 mm

    40 x 30 x 20 = 24000
    24000 divided by 250 = 96 rings

    (iii)
    Cost of block = €9600
    No. of rings = 96
    9600 divided by 96 = €100 per ring
    €120 - €100 = €20 profit
