Looking forward to hitting the Wicklow Way next week. I'm home from Australia for 10 days so this will be the running highlight of my brief trip home! I'm running leg two, ran 1:28 last year but hoping to get closer to 1:20 this time round.

Nice one. Anyone else have particular targets for their leg? Running leg 5 myself and I believe the top guys can achieve 55 mins there. If I get near 65 mins I'd be doing well.

I think we know now, on the way back down we saw a turn that originally looked like a dead end on our way up, its at the 3 mile mark on your map.

I have GPS routes as far as Glenmalure on my webserver:

Doesn't take into account the changes for the IMRA relay though.

I will be out there trotting up the hills of leg 5. I hope to be around the 65-70 myself. Its going to be interesting to see how the weather changes.

Race D says there are 38 teams. First WW relay for me so really looking forward to the atmosphere.

Still, record is there to be broken by a good team - not sure who the front runners are this year ...

Team lists have been sent to each captain, they make for very interesting reading! Nearly every team is running a full complement of 8. Plenty of strong squads, but there's a couple in particular that stand out, so it could make for a very exciting close finish again.

Rathfarnham look like favourites to me, with Clonliffe A a likely second place. Don't see anyone else who looks likely to challenge the collection of big guns on those teams.

I've moved the posts relating to the censorship policies of imra to another thread to keep this one free for the WWR event. You'll find the moved posts at

Na, much as I would like Rathfarnham to win I think it's unlikely - min 8 minute victory on paper for Clonliffe. I not due to run, so not sure who's doing leg 7 for Rathfarnham. We'll see on Sat I guess

That's a pity - I was looking forward to trying to tie your shoelaces together when you weren't looking at the start. Only way I was going to be able to catch you up.

:mad:Now all the other teams will wear their Salomons with the kevlar pull-ties... Daithi, quit giving away team tactics!:)

    Hey all,
Just like to ask a quick question regarding the end of leg 2. I've only done one reccy and think I went a lit off just at the end. When coming off the boardwalk, there were 2 options, left through a forest (which I took) or a right / straight. Ended up coming up to a T junction staring at a map of the forest, took a right there and continued up to a carpark. I dont think it was the right carpark though. If anyone who can make sense of my post could fill me in on directions at the very end it'd be great, cheers.

That sounds correct to me. You should see a big sign giving an overview of the Wicklow Way at the carpark you arrive at.

Thanks Stark, hadn't seen that map, I was at the right place. My driver was wrong so, :D. Cheers

Well the map was something I just drew myself there. It's likely your driver was getting confused with the wicklow way trail race that was run in April where they used a different starting point. There are also some other minor differences between the trail race route and the official Wicklow way. The handover point for leg 2/3 of the relay is definitely along the actual wicklow way anyway.

"The Bulleting Boards", comprising of EarlyEvening, Magnet, Woddle, Hunnymonster, Slogger Jogger, donothoponpop, Daithi BC, BeepBeep67; will be flying the flag for Boards in the relay tomorrow. There's quite a few other Boardies on other teams too. Race starts at 7am at Kilmashouge, and traverses the Wicklow Way in 8 legs to finish at Shillelagh.

Best of luck to everyone taking part in one of the best races on the calender!

It hasn't stopped raining since I got up this morning (Dublin cc). Wonder how our Boardsie's are fairing out there ? I'd say the Wicklow 200 guys are glad they're out tomorrow.

Unfortunately I (first man out) took a wrong turn and then got a stitch attempting to catch up. We were 29th out of 30 at the end of my leg. We're up to 19th at the moment at end leg 6.

I'm dreading meeting the rest of them at the end. I'll have to hand back my boards singlet in disgrace. :o

I did legs 1 & 2. Was running bang on schedule for leg one. Got into Curtlestown, ran through the crowd and turned left. Yes you read that correctly, LEFT!!!!

I use the run from Enniskerry back to Terenure with the WW section from Curtlestown back as a training route sometimes and it was a reflex action to take that turn and not the correct way. Ended up putting 3.5 k or so onto my run and losing 19 minutes for the team. We were never gonna be contenders but the runners behind me could have done without that cock up!

Some pretty mouldy conditions out there but despite that and my cock up enjoyed the run. I'll be back year to try make up for my error and improve on the time.

Very happy to report that the boardsies had a fine Wicklow way relay and after the leg 1 upset (these things happen), we inched our way up the 'boards' to finish a commendable 12th.. and our final runner was seconds from a group of 3. It was a great motivational boost on each leg to know there were runners ahead of you that you could possibly catch.

A great day. Race reports to follow in due course I'm sure. Here's a few pix I updated..
