Looking to borrow overhead projector

    Hi
I am doing an art project which involves transferring some sketches of flowers and animals onto wood, which will then be cut to the required shape. It would make life a lot easier if i could borrow an overhead projector to project the images onto the wood - then I could just copy the outline. Would anyone in the Dublin area (I live in Santry) have one I could borrow for a day to do the task? I will collect it and drop it back myself.
    Thanks!

Hi MM, I've an old overhead projector, works grand, but big and awkward!
I have it up in Donegal, but I can bring it down for you, if you'd like.
It'd have to be collected in Leixlip though.

From your description of what you want to do, I don't think an OH projector would help you. The wood needs to be very far away from the OH to get it in focus, so your original image would have to be very small.

Did you consider getting your images printed onto a sheet of paper, and just tracing the image onto the wood?

If you go to a hardware store, and buy a roll of lining paper. Next, go to any sign shop, the kind that does vinyl lettering etc., for vans and stuff. Ask them if they could print out your image onto the lining paper. Most sign places have a plotter that's used to cut the vinyl, but these can also be used to hold a pen! You can get the image printed almost any length, you're just limited to the width of the lining paper.

If you can supply the image as a line diagram (vector), it will make the process a lot easier. If you can't do that, trace the outline of your image onto tracing paper, and give the sign shop that, as it'll be easy for them then to scan it.

Let me know what you think, as I'll be going to Leixlip next Sunday, and I could bring the OH with me.

Ah thanks. I'm grand now - I just drew the images freehand in the end and they turned out fine... so no need to drag down the OH projector!! I appreciate your reply though!!
