Basically that's it. I'm still using limewire and it's terrible. Anyone know what is the best bit torrent type downloader to use on an apple mac?

I tried utorrent but couldnt get it to work. In sayin that, it was about 6months ago. For some reason I couldn't any song I wanted to download to download for me. Then when it would look as though it was gonna start downloading, it would show a dial up speed (even though I have 3mb broadband) and it wouldn't do anything then. 3 hours later and it was still the same.

So can I get some tips on how to work it and what's the best one to use, thanks.

I've always used Tomato myself for torrents, using Unison at the moment for Usenet .nzb downloads, getting around 1.2mb a sec so getting a show in no time, star trek downloaded while I had a shower, not that I condone downloading anything like that ;-)

Vuze (formerly Azureus) They have a class media brrowser for new trailers and short films, definitely my favourite.

    Vuze

You should give it a look.

you sir, need to go to http://www.sabnzbd.org

I think transmission is the best BT client on mac. There is also utorrent, which is supposed to be good but nowhere near as good as the PC version.

I hate vuze - I hate any software that starts adding a pile of "features" on top of its original function.

Another +1 for Transmission. It's by far the best Mac torrent client at the moment. Although uTorrent for Mac is worth keeping an eye on.

    I don't like Azureus either.

Use both Transmission and utorrent, for features/options/user friendliness transmission is an absolute wonder. If utorrent for mac ever gets similar features to it's windows variant then the it'd be a close call between the two, right now though it is transmission all the way. I use both because sometimes utorrent is more connectible and sometimes transmission is more connectible.

I'm wondering why people still use torrents if there are much faster and more convenient ways to download stuff (eg. Rapidshare).

Rapidshare is rarely faster than torrents, at least the ones I seem to go for (i'd also argue that it's far less convenient if what you are downloading has to be downloaded in parts due to rapidshare's filesize limitations [referring to free account of course]). Unless you're suggesting people go and buy a rapidshare account, in which case I'd wonder why those people aren't using a usenet service.

Yep, Transmission for me as well. Vuze is decent and has more bells and whistles, but Transmission is light, easy to use and seems a little speedier all round.

I've tried Vuze, transmission and utorrent for mac. None of them were satisfactory, I'm now running the windows version of utorrent through darwine. Works great and does everything I need without being a resource hog.

Transmission for me. The speeds I'm getting these days are very high since I increased the number of peers in the preferences (note: doing this will make downloads hog your net connection but you will get 15x times the speeds). I downloaded Windows 7 in about an hour or less.

    Sounds like pile of bloat.

Adding to the praise for Transmission here.

Have been using it for over a year with no real issues at all, it has a light memory footprint and is very responsive.

    Utorrent is the best.

Peeps, you should really try Opera, it has a built in torrent downloader. It's fast and does everything an internet suite should do.

anyone using utorrent? is it better than vuze? Thinking of swapping as snow leopard seems to break vuze:confused:

    What's wrong with Transmission?

nothing, as far as i know, just always used vuze. I'm thinking of making the jump to another program that is ok both on windows and mac

Vuze is fine, have used on both mac and PC but would have to agree that transmission is the best for mac - works really well and no frills!

    Transmission is excellent.

I haven't tried Vuze for torrents yet, and as for bloat, try streaming videos from a Mac to your Xbox using Transmission.

    Sometimes bloat is good.

Why would you want to use a torrent application to stream media to you xbox?

Why wouldn't you use a media server application?
