Possible stomach ulcer

A friend of mine won't go to the doctor but may have a stomach ulcer. He had awful stomach pain and he also has coughed up a lot of blood. He thinks it is gone now but I'm worried about it. Can an ulcer heal by itself without medication? Any information would help...

he needs to go to the doctor as a matter of some urgency. Coughing up blood is not normal
