I used mediation when my marriage split up, we had no children, and the entire process was quick for us (three sessions in total)

The norm is approx. 6-10 sessions, and at the outset clear guidelines are set out in terms of behaviours expected, and what the purpose of mediation is.

Our mediator was very good, and went through every single issue very methodically, and then sent us a draft mediated seperation agreement which then forms the basis of a seperation agreement for the lawyers to draw up.

One thing I did find was that if you have had a non acrimonious split and can still discuss things with your former partner, this is a huge help with mediation as you can take the outcome of each session and discuss it, and tease out different issues between yourselves, and then use the next mediation session to work through what you have agreed and determine if it will "fit" within a seperation agreement.

It also saves a fortune in legal fees.

There is a bit of a wait to get into your first session but imo it's well worth it.

    Best of luck.
