    Friends
If you agree with the statement below, please reply to the thread +1

'As long as Harvey Norman's continue with their advertising campaign, I will not be shopping in their stores'.

Do people agree with me that their style of campaign is too agressive and loud? I really can't bear listening to it anymore. Perhaps if enough people let them know that they won't do business with the company unless they tone down the ads, they might listen.

Do we really need to be shouted out to buy stuff? Vote with your keypads people...please

Get over it. There is more in life to worry about than advertising campaigns.
Join in and sing the song! It will be less oppressive if you do :D
Bring back the original Harvey voice.

On another note, I miss Barry Scott, the new guy is just too quiet.

Oh and where is the poll?

    Ads are ads.

Far more objectionable is that prick Gerry Harvey, who as BocktheRobber said, had the temerity to compare the troubles of his furniture chain to the Famine.

That, and the fact that chains like Harvey's and Tesco are draining money out of the economy (with the exception of those they employ, which I admit is something tangible in these times).

And the Irish produce they buy, taxes they pay, utility bills etc etc etc The money leaving the country would be a lot less than you might think considering their turnover. Obviously its enough to make it worth their while but its not like even the majority of the money goes to Aus the UK.

Jaysus they have had the same style of advertising since the 80's or early 90's judging from that :D

I have new respect for their persistence.

Do we need to point out that creating this thread just creates more publicity?

I couldn't care less about their advertising methods as long as they're employing Irish people and undercutting other stores

They are at least employing Irish people.

    HOW VERY DARE YOU

I have lived with that man shouting at me from the radio for years and frankly I've had enough. I swear on my laptops life that I will never every purchase a single item from that chain as long as they continue to be so agressive in their marketing.
BTW, obviously it's good that they provide employment and pay taxes etc., I'm not disputing that. But why do they have to SHOUT AT ME ALL THE TIME. Even on Lyric FM (yes, I am a listener).

I find their pricing structures and policy on price "reductions" during "sales" to be a much better disincentive to shopping there. Their ad campaigns merely enforce this view, but as mentioned above if you find their ads annoying you certainly need to listen to/watch more adverts for Irish based companies...

If they had someone in the ad talking very low/ordinary, no one would pass any remarks on it.

They're an Aussie firm aren't they. I don't think they have any presence in the UK

Their ads are still better than the typical Northern Irish furniture ad. You know the ones that look like powerpoint presentations that are charged by the slide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,177 ✭✭✭✭Berty

Nearly all Australian ads were like that. Harvey Norman just kept on to the idea.

Usually the owners of the business would do their owns ads.

And yes shouting was the order of the day.

Search for 70/80's used car dealer ads on You Tube to see for yourself.

You are correct, I am so used to people talking about all our money going to the UK my fingers did the typing before my brain caught up.

I haven't a bad word to say about Harvey Norman, I got a great deal on a leather suite a few weeks ago.
I would definitely shop there again.

In terms of an Ad, it's excellent. Loud, colourful, informative.

I hate it, it grinds my gears but I change the channel and then the pain stops.

If it's that bad just stop listening to the radio and go get an iPOD instead.
I hear you can pick them up cheap from Harvey Normans.

The owner sounds like a colourful fellow!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerry_Harvey
In a recent interview he described giving charity to the homeless as "a waste", and said that it was "helping a whole heap of no-hopers to survive for no good reason". He said he believed in helping "develop people to their potential" because "when they achieve [their potential] they will put a lot more back into the community"

    LOL!:p

I have a deep seated aversion to both them and Red Bull due to their adds.
