Sad Irish losers supporting foreign teams

I'm Irish, and I think soccer is a great game. What makes me sick is my country men have no culture or pride of their own and declare loyality to foreign winning teams. It is absolutely pathetic.

All I hear is Finn Harps, Shamrock Rovers, etc - "they're sh1te, etc"
It does not matter that they are not very successful - they need local support. You can admire and commend great skill in other players, teams, and countries, but you only have the right to support your local/national team.

These weak loyalist supporters are usually low/middle social class Irish who support these winning teams, mostly in English and Scottish premier league (also other sports such as Ferrari in F1). It seems to me they do this to enjoy the success of winning a game, likely to compensate for failures in their own lives.

Grown men in British football jersies who spend 3-4 hours a day watching and reading about completely irrelevant actitivies. (I'm not anti-British BTW.)

    Celtic, Man Utd, etc. Pathetic.

Are you from these cities? - No.
Do you know any of the players personally? - No.
Can you speak your own native language - No.

These fools are sedated by 900 channels of Sky TV, Coronation Street, the "Oirish" Sun and Carlsberg (coz Jack tells them to drink it).

People would, and do kill for what you have - a country and culture of your own. I don't mean you have to be playing the oileann pipes with your irish wolf hound while drinking Guiness (an English product) Create your own culture. Educate yourself, be independent.

You have NO right to support these teams. Get a life - your own life.

I just feel if this energy was put into our own country instead of abroad, it would be great.

These British teams must be laughing at the Irish - pouring 100s millions of Euros into their clubs - embarressing.

How am I foolish? I bring that into it to display the nations laziness and lack of discipline/pride for something that is unique and priceless to a nation, the lack of pride/discipline that results in supporting these teams that they have absolutely no link to.

You won't find Israelis calling their Hewbew language useless like the Britannia soccer worshiper here.

So you decry those who support a team from the oppressor country and yet love a garrison game, Shame.

I support Rovers but I see nothing wrong with people supporting foreign teams seen as thats where the money, players, tv rights and quality is.

It has nothing to do with laziness, lack of discipline or pride....don't call other people idiots when you come out with that dribble.

I'm not sure if you are agreeing with me or not!

    1) Yes - you did not choose to support Liverpool as a newborn child, so as an autonomous fully grown adult, would you not question why the hell you do support them?

    2) No - you don't have the right to support Liverpool. Why do you have the right? Just because it was the team annointed to you as an unquestioning newborn. Is that a reason? No. What gave your parents th right to support Liverpool? - Nothing by the sounds of it.
Were you born in Liverpool? Does a family member or friend play for Liverpool? Do you have shares in Liverpool? - These are valid reasons to support a football club.

    3) Why are there basically no Hibernian fans in Ireland compared with Celtic fans? Considering Hibernian means Irish, I would have thought the same logical justification for Irish support exists. Oh yes, because they don't win silverware. Pathetic.

Sorry man - If I saw you, a mature Irish man, in a Liverpool jersey - I'd have absolutely no respect for you.

No Hibernian English? However do they make themselves understood?

    Yea i agree
Think thats its kinda embarrassing when tourists are over here and see the amount of people who support english teams and go around wearing the jerseys! Is it any wonder we are seen as a mini Britain!
No wonder soccer is dead on its heals here, if the half of effort went into irish teams in any sport, sport in the country would be all the better for it!!

OP are you saying that you have never ever supported anything that isnt irish, your saying that everything you have contributed money to for something in return is 100% Irish!!!

    Your argument is laughable!

I think you'll get more abuse than me for saying it's only a game!

Not for these boys. They sleep in Man Utd quilt covers, drink out of Man Utd mugs, Have Man Utd ornaments dangling in their cars.
They lose weeks in the year watching these matches, travelling to these matches, pour 100s millions of euros into these clubs out of our country.
They are clinically depressed for 3 days after a match loss (proven)

I doubt that, seeing as most of the clubs you seem to have an issue with people following aren't owned by the British.

Before you begin your cultural revival in full, you should perhaps consider doing it to through a sport that is actually unique to a nation.

Oh ffs, what makes you think anyone needs/wants your respect? Fortunately, we live in a relatively free world and there is a free market about where people choose to spend their time and their money. If people get enjoyment from watching quality and football then so be it. Get off your ivory tower and get on with your life instead of worry what people do or don't do in their leisure time.

All the more reason to support locally!
So in other words Irish teams should only have Irish born players playing for them ? That 's nice when applied to the national team ( although 2nd, 3rd generation irish born players doesn't bother me either ) and no reason why foreign players can't or shouldn't play in irish football either ?

But the money is in the premership .

There are not one irish team that can fill a stadium in ireland so I guess your calling a majority of the country losers.

    Your counter argument is laughable.

I admire and enjoy any athlete that excels in their field. I sometimes support an individual or team and hope that they win over another for various reasons, for a very limited time period, but I do not pledge allegence to a club until my passing, that I have absolutely no right to. I am not so weak as to join the winning team to enjoy success.

Yes, I have contributed money to several worthy causes/objectives. Manchester United is not one of them. My local league sports teams, GOAL, St Vincent De Paul, Medecins Sans Frontier (foreign) - these are what I regularly contribute to.

If you're asking if I've spent money on imports - of course I have. Because I have a requirement for goods and services not produced here.
