Some may say the obvious places like the Wicklow mountains or the Mountains in Kerry. For Dublin I'd reckon the mountains near three rock

On the Main Island of Ireland there is no point that is more than 7 Km from a road.

The definition of road probably takes a good battering there though.

I was told it by a friend who is well into mountaineering and hillwalking etc. He would be one to know like. However he could have said 7 miles rather than Kilometers, I am not 100% sure.

The Definition of Road does take a battering though, by road he meant a trail that has been travelled enough that you can tell by looking at it.

I heard it somewhere else as well, I just can't remember where.

Oh I'm not accusing ya of lying or anything, I hope to break it out as an interesting fact someday, I was just wondering how such information comes about :) Thanks!

Say miles and you are definitely right. I just did a quick once over of Ireland there on Mapmyrun where you can do distances, I found nowhere over 7km after looking for likely remote places. Remember, Farmers paths are roads too.

    Most remotest? LOL

    Most remote.

That begs the question: Most remote from what?

Surprised no-one mentioned the mighty http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockall for offshore. Though a few other feckers claim it too. Prepare to lose yourself on wikipedia reading about beautiful places like St. Kilda if you're not careful! I was actually looking up Rockall a couple of days ago and came across this site. Onion-type news stories which are pretty funny and will waste lots of your time if you let it! http://www.therockalltimes.co.uk/

"The ownership of Rockall is disputed as are the exploration and fishing rights on the Rockall Bank. A meeting between the countries involved (the United Kingdom, Denmark (for the Faroe Islands), Ireland and Iceland), is scheduled for May 2009."

Well, don't know about Ireland, but here's a map of the remotest places on earth:

Pity you can't zoom on Ireland, but it looks like Kerry is the remotestest...
EDIT: hold on, Connemara and a wee bit of Donegal look like they might do too.

The toilets in DCU science block. Used them frequently for 4 years and never encountered a single person in all that time. It was like something out of the Twilight Zone. The "Toilight Zone" I guess.
