An electro acoustic is an acoustic guitar like the one below. However it has a pickup and preamp inside the instrument that will allow you to amplify the acoustic sound by plugging it into an amplifier (and turning it on obviously).

A semi-acoustic is an electric guitar, but not a solid body. Its a semi-hollow body guitar, so the inside of the guitar is carved out and a cap is put on top. These usually have electric guitar pickups. Usually these have "f" holes so they will be a little louder (not much though). Some might not have any "f" holes. An example of a semi-acoustic is a Gibson ES-335.

You can start on whatever type of guitar you want. But I would say, if you want to play electric primarily then get an electric first... if you want to play acoustic primarily then get an acoustic guitar first. :)

No problem. The Sheraton II is pretty similar in construction to the 335, I haven't played a Sheraton II though. I think the user here "Alan Rouge" has one of them. :)
