TELL ME MORE ABOUT CANYON ROADLITE 5.0 ROAD BIKE

Hi again guys,i am back again cos me head is wrecked looking at all these different road bikes available before i finally decide which is the best one to buy.... ok here go,s,,, was nearly 99.9 all set to go for new specialized allez sport priced at 825.00 euro,but i have just come across this canyon roadlite 5.0 bike online priced at 849.00 euro plus 50.00 euro shipping = 900.00 euro...... The spec on it looks pretty good and i think a bit better than the specialized and its also quite a nice looking bike also....I NEVER HEARD of canyon bikes before and know nothing about them or where they are made etc,are they any good...I dont mind paying an extra 75.00 euro if its a much better bike and deal over the specialized..... Finally i never bought a bike online before and was wondering has anybody ever bought a canyon from this company before,and when it arrives are they easy to assemble yourself or difficult if your only a newby cyclist.....Loads of info and opinions on canyon road bikes needed please... Thanks guys....

They are a very reputable German bike company, probably originally best known for their MTBs. They make stunningly attractive bikes. Cadel Evans and the rest of Silence Lotto are riding them this year.

Ok blorg thanks for replying,thats great but would you buy the canyon roadlite 5.0 road bike over the specialized though,is it a better bike or not and worth the extra 75.00 euro do you think..Is there many lads using them on Irish roads cos i have'ent seen very many around thats all.. Check out the bike i,m talking about at www.canyon.com and tell me please what you think,a good bike and deal and better option than specialized or not.... I am certainly no bike expert thats why i need expert advice from all of you guys...Cheers............

Yes, I would unquestionably buy the Canyon, it is much better bike and looks better too in my opinion. 105 is well worth the extra over Tiagra and the wheels are better on the Canyon. It's also a fair bit lighter.

I have been out on spins with people on Canyons and they look very nice in the flesh.

Thanks for that advice xz and blorg, i presume they are easy enough to assemble yourself when you buy online,is it just a matter of putting wheels back on and a few minor adjustments here and there or is it more difficult than that...... Also where's the best place to buy some cycling gear at reasonable prices,i need new shorts,tights,shoes,jersey,waterproof jacket,helmet etc ,not looking for top brand names or anything just decent gear without paying a fortune for it,any good places you know...I,m just getting back into cycling after about 15 to 20 years break from proper cycling and its all new to me again guys....Thanks very much for all the help i really appreciate it guys...Cheers..............

Hi bcun, still making up your mind on a bike:) I smiled when I read this post as I was going to recommend the Roadlite 5 or 6 over the Specialized but hadn't time to post so glad you found it.( I assumed you were only choosing between the Lappiere and the Specialized) They Canyon are beautiful bikes made by German company as previously mentioned and excellent value. A video on the site shows Gilbert finishing 3rd in the Tour of Flanders on one of them. I am interested in the Ultimate CF myself as it is the best value out there for the components included, likewise the Roadlite 5 or 6 or any of the bikes for that matter. Just go and order it! The shipping cost is €38.40 but they suggest a bikebox for an additional €16.90 which I would recommend.
As for buying gear online there are a few sites like PBK, Chainreaction and Wiggle all have free postage to Ireland and I have used all of them with no problems. So get the card out and start ordering before the season is over.;)

Hi sy, thanks for your post mate,you have finally made my mind up,its now going to be a canyon roadlite 5.0 road bike for me so..... I will be turning the big 40 years old in june 09 and i,m going to treat myself to a nice new road bike for my Birthday an for reaching that milestone in my life.....We only get one life so you might as well have fun and enjoy it while we are on this planet,,dont you agree... Here is my honest opinion ok,they are both lovely bikes but if i was buying either i would defo go for the boardman from halfords for a couple of reasons.....1. Boardman is carbon frame which is better and lighter than canyons aluminium frame,2.Boardman is almost same price as canyon yet its carbon as against aluminium,3.I found canyon bikes to be very nice but their customer service is absolutely woeful from any dealings i had with them and i would,ent touch them with a barge pole ever and thats just my opinion and the reason i did,ent buy a bike off them plus if you buy the boardman from halfords you will save yourself the hassle of the extra shipping charges and you will have your bike a lot quicker....Whatever you decide i hope this helps and enjoy your new bike mate...............

I bought a Canyon mtb and found them to be great to deal with, after initially having a slight problem with them regarding them being unable to take my payment via credit card (which they've sorted now).

I'd buy another Canyon no problem, and I'd endorse them to anyone.

Halfords customer service is second to none. Even If I knew that canyon employed a deaf Labrador call center. I think I,d still sleep safe at night with my canyon bike. Knowing that I did,nt have to deal with argos in orange jackets.

Bcun i have a canyon on my shopping list for late this year, last year they had a great sale towards the end of the year, they had 500 euro off some of the higher specd bikes, so fingers crossed i ll be ordering my speedmax 9.0 when the season is over and i ll grab a bargain

I have a canyon ordered and have been waiting a good while for delivery. They look like a good bike, but the service would have me worried if it ever developed any problems and I had to deal with getting it sorted out in Germany.

I bought a canyon ultimate cf bike 2years ago, found them no hassle at all to deal with. I just put a new set off dura ace cl 7850 wheels on yesterday, look the business.

:)As i have already said lads and i will say it again,the canyon bikes are really lovely bikes and i never said they were not,but their customer service is complete ****e and their are far too many other excellent companies out there to choose from that offer excellent customer service when purchasing top of the range bikes that cost lots of hard earned bucks so i would take my business else where to a company that appreciates it especially in these difficult times of recession,so READ BETWEEN THE LINES PEOPLE................

5 week build time for canyon I wanted. Even if it was 5 years, I dont think I could ever cross the final frontier into halfords and part with €€€. I Bought 2nd hand Focus cayo tonight. Thats more than enough for a MTBer. Give me a wave if you see me in the park. I,m the one with full face helmet.:)

I've been thinking about buying a Canyon frameset but am really put off by the numerous stories about poor customer service. I ideally I will have the bike built up during August but can't be sure that a frame ordered now will even reach me by then.

Canyon do not have a bad service. I have dealt with them recently on very un-important trivial stuff and they were very, very helpful. I have had a friend who returned a Yellowstone 5.0 and they couldn't have been more helpful....halfords....come on, some douche bag in Leeds nearly sold me a womans GT mountain bike when some stranger came up and said, I couldn't help over hearing but that is a womans bike right? That was 5 years ago when I didnt know what I was doing but t shows that you are much better off dealing with Canyon the manufacturer than 'Argos'... BTW Headlight bulbs for my Nissan Almera cost me nearly €50 when they were really a tenner down at motorfactors..... now read between the lines guys.....

I bought a MTB off them (CANYON) last month. It was delivered within a week of ordering. Very happy with it.

Can I ask which model you got, and is it a 2010 or 2011? I'm looking at getting the AL8.0 and would just like to get some more info, cheers.
