Period help!

ok...i know this isnt a medical forum, but I'm just asking for ideas.

I'm supposed to be starting on the pill, on the first day of my period. Basically, my period was supposed to come yesterday (I was rather anxious and worried in case I may be pregnant, although protection was used).
Then today, my boyfriend fingered me(sorry if this is graphic) and a some blood came out, so i presumed my period had started. But I have only had a very light bleed since then. I do sometimes get a verry light bleed when my period is starting, so maybe its just lingering up there for a bit.
The thing is, do i take the pill today? Or should I wait til it gets a bit more like a period, not just a really tiny bit of blood, because the majority of the time, my period starts off very heavy from the start. =/
