A passing observation of mine is that there is a definite link between decibel levels of a conversation and the socio economic background of these folk.

Really? Wouldn't want to be sitting on the Dart listening to roared conversations from D4 types then.

You can avoid nasty situations like that by getting a job.

How could someone say something like that when there are so many people having a terrible time trying to find work.

    Evil.

    its all relative.

im sure she would be shocked by the other life stories out there if you told her you hadnt had a riode in 3years and that you were workin in a library and enjoy a pint of guiness in the evening watching the angelus and at the weekends your name is jacqui and you hang out on the pier.

Usually goes down pretty well when I tell people. They can be surprisingly understanding :)

    Just back from signing on.

As I was standing in the queue, a mother & two daughters came in & stood behind me. They knew two guys who were standing in front of me & so the conversation started between the two groups.
So after discussing which mutual friends were riding who these days, how they shouldn't be standing in the queue because ' those cnuts behind the counter know I'm not working so why the fcuk should I have to wait, sure
I've never had a job ha ha ha', one of the daughters who was no more than 14 asked her mother for a ' fag, I'm dyin' for one & you never bought me any this morning ', the other daughter who is about 17 started saying that she wants to be settled in a new house before the baby is born & ' yer wan behind the counter better not give me any bull**** '.

Anyone else have story to add?

to put it simply and to further point out other users comments there is loads of jobs IF YOU BOTHER TO LOOK. obviously you are too lazy to look for one but not lasy enough to not get free money of the government. if you hate it so much START LOOKING AND STOP COMPLAINING. seen as you also have internet access then www.loadzajobs.ie , www.monster.ie or just typing job vacancies into google and searching within ireland will come up with at least one result.

moral of the story: dont complain about what your not about to change.

And I guarantee a lot of those jobs dont exist. Recruitment agencies are known for putting up fake jobs to get CVs on file so they can possibly use them in future. AND LOOKING DOESNT MEAN HE'S GUARANTEED TO GET THE JOB SINCE HE'S NOT THE ONLY ONE LOOKING!!!

See I can type in caps too:rolleyes:

No it genuinely happened which is why I posted the thread.
Something similar happened a few years ago when I was in court & it shocked me to the core.
In both situations I was amazed at how they managed to treat the whole thing as a fun night out. Seriously all they were missing was a few high stools & drinks.

Hmmm, you were in court and you're on the dole. Hardly think you're in a position to pass judgement. Good effort though!

really o'reilly obviously has a job.

ACTUALLY ultimate chin is right. And ACTUALLY that post makes it look like o'reilly hasnt had to look for a job recently.... hmmm....

AND ACTUALLY i think you missed my effing point. It's easy to sign on for free money?

Yes, it can be. And the OP is signing on temorarily AS HE IS LOOKING FOR WORK and will be stuck without money over the next few weeks/months WITHOUT the DOLE.

That is waht the dole is for....temporary social welfare for those looking for work. Once work is found...dole gets cut.

People in this country are just waaaaay too used to leeches and treat everyone on social welfare accordingly. It annoys me.

im on social welfare and have been in court...sounds bad doesnt it?

I was in court because some whackjob viciously assaulted me on two occasions...neither my fault, they got probabtion.

I am on social welfare because i have serious mental illness and have spent 6 months at a time on a psych ward whilst very ill. Doctors have forced me to be on dissability allowance...but im still out looking for work and volunteering.

neither of those are my fault. give the man the benefit of the doubt...you dont know him or his situation (s)

I got my job in november. It doesn't pay particularly well and its not the most interesting or glamour job in the work, but It pays my bills and i'm contributing to the economy.

Yes it is extremely tough to find work, but not impossible.

well good for you. you were lucky.

    the situation has got worse.

we arent all in the same situation, some people are finding it harder than others. this affects us ALL.
Instead of being smug and putting others down, we could try and help each other out a little.

But **** that....another thing this wonderful celtic tiger did for us. Turned us into rude ignorant ****ers. sigh.

I wasn't up in court, it was an ex that I went with for moral support.
Yes I'm on the dole but not by choice.
So for every other judgemental cnut looking to rip me to shreads, can I point out that I'm constantly sending cv's, making follow up calls etc.
Because I have admistration experience, amongst other things, I have offered to work for free in the social welfare office for the same money I get for signing on.

I posted the thread because I wondered had anyone else heard/ seen something funny or strange while standing in a dole queue. It was meant to be a lighthearted discussion but as usual a few d!ckheads on a moral high horse have to turn it into something it's not.

Hey man, i only ever come in here to laugh at people less well off than me and to look at the world from up here on my horse. And then people like you come on trying ruin that and making me feel bad.
    For shame on you.

Jaysus fair play to you. My girlfriend works in a dole office and comes home with some awful "quotes" from those in the queue, some are downright hilarious but some really make you wonder why on earth you bother to get up in the morning and pay tax. She also got her car keyed outside the office by a disgruntled "client" who reckoned he was getting a raw deal by having his child benefit slashed after it was discovered that his children aren'y even living in the country. That said, I could be in there myself next week - better charge the iPod!

Good for you I hope it lasts. It's not today or yesterday I become unemployed so I know what it takes to get noticed but so far the jobs I have applied for haven't materialised into anything yet.

It sounds like you're doing everything you can, best of luck with the job hunt.

I only come to AH for a laugh, didn't think i'd be taken so seriously.

Last time I was on the dole queue some guy went mental at the woman in the hatch (the welfare officer?) and picked up a chair and started slamming it against the reinforced glass.

It was pretty disturbing but the woman didnt even bat an eyelid- battle hardened I suppose

completely agree. I spend a lot of time volunteering, it's a lot of fun and a really great way to build up your CV. Shows that even though you are on social welfare you arent sitting on your ass....accounts for time in between jobs.
