    Mauro Zarate is linked.

Is playing well for Lazio who have just under 2 weeks to see a permananet deal for him.

Impressed for birmingham last year and also interests Man City according to skysports
I read this yesterday. The Zarate kid they call him. He's only 22. Lazio apparently have until the end of April to secure a deal.

Did anyone notice Itandje smiling, doing a little dance and acting the prick with Plessis during the memorial yesterday? It was during the song (not sure of the name...The Tragedy?). Plessis was well behaved, it was Itandje who was acting the prick. I was shocked. He should be told thrown out of the club immediately.
If so should be sacked with immedite effect

I just watched it again on the e-season ticket, and although he's not exactly dancing, he is for sure 'nudging' Plessis a couple of times, like you would expect a bored kid to do at a funeral or something cos they don't really get the significance or are too immature to cope with it, but you'd forgive a child for being a child.

Rafa tried to buy him before.

He's said that he's interested in Zarate, and one of his three footballing brothers.

Its a bit rich to be castigating anyone without knowing anything of the details. I clearly saw quite a few reds fans smiling at the cameras when it was on them aswell. People come from all backgrounds and religous beliefs. Some do not belong to any faith and some use a memorial service as a 'celebration of life' rather than another chance to grieve, everyone is different. There was quite a bit of random shouting from various parts of the congregation also. I know plenty of folk who would take offence to that.

Im in now way defending the player but i wouldnt like to throw accusations of disrespect either. It was a very long service, and for people who felt that they had little or no connection to what happened its possible to drop your guard at times.

I remember my grandmothers funeral where just before the mass started we were chatting amongst ourselves and my uncle (her son), told us a funny story about my grandmother, we had a little laugh together, it was a sort of 'ice breaker' just to ease a little of the tension surrounding such things. If there was a camera on us it would have looked terrible but there you go. We could hardly be accused of disrespect. Just my opinion of course. The player turned out for the memorial, anyone who was there showed their respects as far as im concerned.

Before the mass started. Would your uncle have told a joke in the middle of the ceremony? An would you still have laughed?

From the S*n though was the orginal link.

Cracking little player, definetely a fan of his. Proved his worth in desperately poor B'ham side and now in Lazio.

Yes, we have been linked with him before so would love to see him play for us. Saying that, and saying this for too many years... we need a top class RW. Sort that out and then.. sort out areas that need strengthing.

I really wanted us to sign Zarate last summer. I think he'd be perfect for us. He can play up front, out wide, possibly in Gerrard's position. He's young, gifted and proved himself in the premiership already.

Since you have asked, and you probably know the way a funeral mass ceremony goes, we did actually talk about my grandmothers love for man united during the time when everyone else is receiving communion. He was telling me how she never let a day go by without mentioning her favourite player, george best, brought a smile to both our faces actually. Perhaps its because alot of the family arent very religious, like i mentioned above, people grieve in different ways. I totally understand why some people may have taken the players actions as disrespect, you may disagree with my opinions but i dont disrespect your opinion, i just air my own.

I see what you are saying, but I saw this too, they appeared to be laughing and joking during the singing of Anfield road, which is more than a bit unfortunate.

Fair enough. You have a very valid point around context, and the different ways people deal with situations.

My grandfather passed away about a year ago. After lid was placed on the coffin in the funeral home we had to leave the room. A younger cousin was a little upset, and I told an anectode about a funny event with my grand father to cheer him up. We both laughed (a forced laugh naturally), and it did lighten the mode a mit for him.

WRT Itandje, there were 28000 people around him, all in a very somber mood. Many had a tear in their eye. Seeeing his actions, I don't feel they were in any way mean as a mark of celebration of the victims lives, or any such noble act.

Of course I may be wrong, but really don't think that I am.

daithijjj, what would your reaction have been if someone who you didnt know, was not a member of your family, was laughing & joking during your grandparents funeral?

Intandje was there to show support for the families of the 96. Instead he disrespected them. His contract should be terminated & he should be ****ed out.

    Ps. Its Rafas birthday today.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,872 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

I think it is not the same to compare Itandje's possible actions with those of a person laughing at a memory of a loved relative, even if both are in the middle of the ceremeony.

If you were at a funeral of a relative of a friend (but not knowing the person who died yourself) would you not feel it totally inappropriate to share a laugh and a joke with your friend in the middle of the ceremony?

I only say bits of the ceremony itself as I was in work all day, so can't comment on what he did or did not actually do, but if it happened as reported, then in the context I think it is appalling.

Yep, fair enough, i realise im probably in a minority of one here. It was unfortunate but i just dont think that the players would show blatant disrespect. A glancing of the tv camera at an innapropriate time could make anyone look bad, the guy could have behaved perfectly for the rest of the service, just one of those things.

    .

Maybe something funny happened and they laughed.

Big deal, they were barely born when it happened, it's not like they laughed into a coffin.

Get over it FFS, shouting for someone to be sacked over that is ridiculous in the extreme.

Soooo... Arsenal eh? Didn't see them last night and sure they've got Chelsea to worry about before us but how were they looking? Seem to be hitting form just in time for them to screw up our chances.

They look good although Villareal are nothing to write home about. Fabegras is an assist machine and walcots goal last night was brilliant. We have them at Anfield so im more confident and I think they are without Clichy along with Gallas at the back so thats only a good thing. Not sure if no Almunia is a good or bad thing really.

Stick Masch on Fabergras and that should be the first step. Big Big game. If we can get a win against them thats putting huge pressure on Utd as they have to play them aswell. I hope Torres shows up for it. Awful against Chelsea.

In all fairness mr alan, we both know im fighting the losing battle here. I didnt set out to defend blatant disrespect to the families. I find it very hard to believe that the player would do that, but as i said above, a glance from the camera at the wrong time could totally misrepresent anyone. If its ok, id rather just draw a line under it now.

Of course i would feel a little upset if someone was laughing and joking during the funeral of a relative but id also like to add that a funeral in a church is somewhat different to the service yesterday. In a relatively confined space like a church you will feel connected to the proceedings whereas with such a huge gathering yesterday it could be easy to drop your guard for a moment and feel a little severed from the ceremony.

I saw stevie and jamie having a chat and a smile at the beginning of the service, god only knows what they were talking about, perhaps the size of the crowd?....all the same, i dont think for a second it was disrespectfull in any way and we all know they werent like that for the whole service.

Seriously I didn't think Itandje could go any lower down in my opinion, but congrats Charlie you have actually achieved something this season besides picking up your pay-check and playing a part in derailing Plessis's development.

The sooner he's gone the better.

On the Babel thing, with that interview the odds of him leaving in the summer
surely have increased. I wonder how much interest there would be in him and what sort of price we might get if he was sold. He's still only 22 and seems to be well established in the Dutch squad.
His stats for the season - played 1410 mins (almost 16 full games) and scored three goals.

Interview with Torres on his web site. He says he wants to play for Liverpool for many more years. He also wants to maybe play in Italy and Germany before returing to Athletico. He must be planning for a long career :)

You could argue that the league game is Arsenals least important for a while as Villa won't catch them now, so there is a chance that Wenger will rest a few plus they have a probably hardfought FA cup game with Chelsea at the weekend.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,492 ✭✭✭MementoMori

I'm hoping both the FA Cups games go to extra time.

While not wishing injury on anyone, I'm also hoping both games are physical affairs with plenty players picking up knocks on all sides.

Between now and May 24 (38 days) Liverpool have 6 games, while Utd have 10 - Utd have the FA Cup at the weekend, at least 2 Champions League games and 7 league games.

I wouldnt complain if Ronaldo,Rooney,Ferdinand,Vidic,Berbatov,Giggs,Evra....and Macheda all broke their leg at the weekend. If it improves our chances of claiming the title I wouldnt mind at all.

Ah now, broken legs is too much. Pulled hamstrings for 6 weeks is about right though ;)

Sounds like joe's planning a trip across the pond,it'd be difficult to pull a hamstring with a baseball bat:pac:

As 5star says a couple of fannystrains to a couple of key players would do nicely or perhaps a rash of redcards.
