Mesa Mark V anyone?

Hey guys,

I know there agood few of you are hardcore gear heads like myself.ive been considering building agood versatile guitar rig/setup for myself for along time and hopefully will invest in a top of the range amp to begin with at the end of the year.Im looking at the Mesa boogie range in particular and was initially goin to buy a roadking or roadster head&cab but now ive been checking out the new markV which was recently released by them at NAMM this year.
Any advice before i splash alot of cash?

Have you considered a Marshall Vintage Modern. I think they are truly awesome. I tried one recently here in Dublin.

For all intents and purposes the Mark V looks amazing, but at €2,500 its a tad pricey. I think if I were in the market at the moment I'd try and pickup a second hand Mark IV. I'd expect a few of them will be turning up on Ebay as people try to upgrade to the V, plus two recently sold on Ebay for €981 and €1057 which is a lot more wallet friendly.

Both US auctions, so you can factor in hefty shipping (they weigh a tonne!) and customs. But still, as you rightly say, cheaper than a MK V.

The MKV hasnt started shipping yet, nobody has gotten one, so it's too early to say anything Colinboy. But if you were looking at a Roadking, that's a completely different sounding amp. The Mark-series and Rectifier-series couldn't be further apart. So i'd advise you try and play some, to get an idea of the sound you're looking for.

Cheers for the replies guys.Hey voodoo i know you have given me advice on mesa,s before as you have one yourself if im not mistaken?
I know 2500euro is alot of money but they are fantastic amps.I was originally goin for the roadking because of the versatility of the valve switching and different modes but i saw a review of the Mark V recently and it sounds pretty impressive aswell.
I dont plan on spending this kind of money lightly.im goin to london in june for the international music/guitar show so hopefully il be able to try a few of them out out to before i make a decision;)

Hi Colinboy,

voodoo_child is absolutely correct about the difference between the Boogie Mark series and Roadking amps. They are very different beasts. I've owned a couple of Mark III's and Mark IV's over the years and now I've being using a Roadking head over the last 3 years as my main amp. It is a GREAT amp and you should try one without doubt. Make sure to go for the version 2 though as this has a better clean voicing on channel 1 which Mesa incorporated from the Lonestar amp.

Cheers for the advice Mark.Hopefully i will get to try them out at the guitar show in london this year.It was the roadking series 2 i was looking at alright but i want to try them out before making a decision on the what to buy.
