I need lots of things that can be shook, banged or rattled. They don't have to be great quality and should preferably be as cheap as possible. Any pointers?

You can get these percussion packs which are aimed at schools but they are quite costly. Perhaps the way to go is make your own shakers with a pack of dried peas etc and some used plastic containers. Works a treat ;)

Everything is a percussion instrument. Just hit things and see what sounds interesting. I was a recording a band a few years ago and they had a high pitched cowbell which wasn't working out. We tried a load of different things and a can from a blow up doll (don't ask) sounded the best. Just hit things and listen :)
