First off,I am not a depressed wreck or anything!

In college in my hometown at the mo.All my orignal friends have gone off all over the country to college.Have met new people on my course, get on the best with them.

The problem is I not a big fan of the drink,a few in the pub the odd time, very odd time like once a month.Been to clubs load while I had a heafty bit of drink on me,good when your young but gets crap when you cant remember anything.Have gonr to clubs sober, even worse as everybody else is out of there head drunk. On top of that its expensive to be going out all that time.

Question is what could I do when all my friends are on the drink all the time? All my socialising is done in college during the week with the weekends involving me sitting in the house waiting for Monday while everybody else is drunk and then you have to listen to their drunken stories on Monday!

Personally I dont think its good for me!

Anybody else in the same situation?

    Hi,

I have never liked drinking alcohol too much, nor have I enjoyed going to pubs or nightclubs. I suggest that you try to think of other people you know who are similar to yourself and then think of something to do with them. The trouble with Ireland is that we have this 'monoculture' of drinking alcohol. However, there are ways around it if you are persistent enough in looking. Things that you can do include the cinema (of course), theatres, staying in to watch a movie, etc.

Have you checked out the societies in college? There can be a lot of stuff going on there that doesn't always revolve around drink.

    Hey op,

I'm not that much into drinking since I turned about 20 :D Anyway I love going to plays & musicals, the cinema, going for walks. Perhaps you need to develop friendships outside college may join some new clubs so that you can meet people who are interested in things other than alcohol.
