There is a live action movie

There are 37 episodes split into two series. I can't remember where series 1 stops and when series 2 starts.

There are 3 live action movies now actually (only found out about the third one yesterday!)
You should try checking out animenewsnetwork.com - it has all of the info you're after and more (great for finding out the names of intro/outro songs!)

Death Note is cool. Weird, but cool. Have yet to watch the live action movie, yet, though.

It's not exactly a lengthy charter...
Just one sentence isn't that hard to follow... is it?

are you talking about "L: Change the World"?

I thought the movies where actually very well done. The ending to "Desu nôto: The last name" was absolutely excellent. I haven't watched much of the anime so don't know if it's in canon.

Exactly - so, please, no more linking to sites that host licensed anime - cheers ;)

I really enjoyed Death Note. Thought is was a clever at time and Ryuk was quite an interesting character.

Both of the theme songs are on the album Buiikaesu! by Maximum The Hormone, one of my favourite bands.
I highly recommend buying the album.

Watched Death Note film there yesterday after taping it on Film4 and was surprised how entertaining it was. Really enjoyed it, going to start watching the anime (watched first episode and seems pleasantly dark) and looking forward to watching part 2: nice dramatic cliffhanger ending!

    The manga is better.

The anime changes the ending, and over dramaticises some parts, and the live action is kinda cheesy.

What is the ending in the manga? Crap ending in Anime, pity as it was AWESOME until the end.

Manga Ending of Death Note? Well, quite simply.
Light attempts to wright Near's name on his secret watch note. Matsuda shoots him in the hand. Light gets hysterical, and asks Ryuk to use his Death Note. Ryuk shrugs and starts writing. Everyone gets terrified. Ryuk turns Deathnote about to reveal Lights name. END. Epilogue.

That movie was pathetically disgusting, wasted 15mins of my life before i switched off.

But the Anime is actually the best i have ever seen, altho the ending was rather sour. Been looking for something as good as this for a long time now and so far the only one nearest to it was Code Geass but was nothing near as complex and well structured.

I hope you enjoy the series, i watched my first episode and then another 30 episodes after before i was out of commission. Most Addictive Anime!

deathnote is one of the few anime that made me root for the bad guy(light), not many anime does that for me. another is speedgrapher, i like animes where there isn't a clear distinction in which what the "evil" dudes are doing are actually wrongclear.gif

One of my first, and favorite anime series. Everytime I listen to the OST I still end up ecstatic, and I watched Death Note when it was aired.
The movie actually was quite ok. Not so awesome as anime, but ok. Not bad.
I'm looking forward to reading the manga. In Japanese. I know I'll understand a quarter of the text, but what the heck - I won't learn the language if I don't practise, right? :)

I've only watched a few episodes of the anime, but it seemed to be reasonably faithful to the manga as far as I watched. I'm sorry to hear about the ending changing though, but I might watch through the rest to see what's different. I watched a few minutes of one of the movies, but the CGI Luke/Ryuk didn't do it for me.

Shōnen manga (and other reading materials aimed at children) is a decent way to practice reading Japanese IMO. It's not bad for picking up vocab (particularly slang) either, but if you have difficulty making sense of the Japanese, I'd recommend you get the English version to study with too. It can be difficult to understand the meaning of some Japanese phrases just by translating word for word, it's better to learn those words in context. It's also important to see/hear words and phrases in multiple contexts to understand subtle changes in meanings.

Check out www.yesasia.com for (relatively) cheap Japanese manga.

    頑張れ! ^_^
