Stacking Sieves to improve cheap grinder?

    Hey,

I've just had a wandering thought. Some of us simply can't afford a good expensive grinder and one of the main problems with the cheap whirley-blade grinder is that it doesn't give a consistent grind.

I picked up a grinder for €20 recently and am very happy with it, for the price. But when grinding for my French press it does give a fine dust along with the required coarse grind. This tends to leave a muddier brew.

So I thought about a simple solution there... a 2-stacked sieve device. After a few google image searches here's the closest existing thing to what I was thinking (images below).

1st sieve: only allow grind < max-size to pass
2nd sieve: only allow grind < min-size to pass
Tray - catch the dusty grind.

The optimum grind would then be held in the second sieve.

Surely a simple compact kitchen version of this could be made cheaply.

    What do ye think?
Does something like this already exist?
Should I just shut up and save up for a proper grinder?!
    :P

Dragons Den?! :p By posting I'm already voiding any patent which I don't believe could be aquired anyway!

You would end up wasting a lot of time and coffee.
    However, it probably would work.

Similar items exist for determining grind distibution profiles of grinders. An old fashioned alternative to laser diffraction.

The money you waste on sifting coffee would pay for a decent grinder.
