hi everyone, looking for some advice at the moment as i currently without any close friends, this has happened to me over a long period of time and its my own fault but i cant change the past. Basically i moved to london a few years back when i was 20 to study and made plenty of friends over there but lost contact with most friends in ireland over that period which is understandable, when i moved back last year to ireland i didnt move home to work either so i basically had no friends when i moved for my job at first. I have made a few friends alright but none that i could say are very close. I seem to be in a strange position now though because when i was in college i always had plenty of good friends around me. I did not realise this was such a big problem until recently i started thinkin and its really becoming an issue as its gettin me down as im feelin like a bit of a loner at times. The thing is i am a very sociable person and get along well with the majority of people i meet, thats why im kind of getting down on my current situation. I do try and make the effort with everyone i meet but i dont want to come across as someone that is trying too hard to be friendly as it might just scare people off. I dont know what advice i am looking for but my situation has been like this for a while and has not changed much.

Basically im blaming myself for moving away and losing all my old friends and not making the effort to keep in contact as they all seem to have went there own ways. I know this is a part of life that everyone does there own thing but you usually still have a base of friends that you can call upon at any time. I dont think i have this.

i feel your pain on this one. maybe you should ask yourself 'does anyone class you as a good friend' and 'how can i be a better friend'?? i only say this as i find myself in more or less the same position as yourself, having moved away from home and set up a life in another country.

what do you look for in a friend? what do they mean to you?

i have a few good friends alright but i dont meet them much as they live in other parts of the country, so they dont actually realise that i dont do much socialising apart from when i meet up with them. I also do have a few other friends who actually dont socialise much for various reasons, i think this is where my problem lies but i cant change my current pool of friends and their differant circumstances. Maybe a part of the problem is that i am single and a lot of my friends are hooked up now so they dont actually have that much interest in headin out- what do i do then to socialise with people as i would not be interested in heading out on my own.
