    Just wondering which are better for playing rock and metal,active or passive pickups? I havent a clue about pickups

    personally id never use active pickups,but thats because 99.9% of bands i listen to don't use them either.

    for metal active Emg's and duncans are very popular,but they definitely imprint there sound,and i think you end up hearing more characteristics of the pickup design than the body they are in,if you using tonnes of preamp gain those nuances may not matter anyway and they certainly do a good job of keeping the noise floor down
