Meeting the In-Laws

    Hey All,
Long time poster. Going unreg for this one. I'm a gay man in a relationship. I've been seeing my boyfriend for the last 4 months or so and things have been going great. So naturally, it's time to meet the parents. I've been invited to their house this weekend for dinner and I'm absolutely bricking myself. He's my first serious boyfriend so I've never had to meet the in-laws before.

Normally I'm not too shy when it comes to meeting strangers. My friends' parents all seem to like me - mothers especially. I'm just worried that I'll run out of things to talk about during dinner end up sitting in silence while desert is being served. Anyone have any suggestions? The OH's father is into sports and I'm not at all. I wouldn't even be able to blag my way through a converstaion.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

be yourself....your boyfriend obviously likes/ loves you for a reason so relax. Chances are the mother in law is frantically running around the house cleaning and worrying about meeting you too!

Find out what team the dad supports and look up their latest scores and place in the league so at least you can say something if the topic comes up! or when their last match was and where so you can ask did you see the xxx match last week...did you get a chance to go to it?

Pretend she is just another mother (of a friend) and just have fun...ask questions that require long answers!

    good luck!

Yeah I'd agree with that, his mother is probably more anxious than you are to make a good impression!

There's lots of things you can talk about and I'm sure your bf's father isn't limited to just talking about sport and he probably won't expect you to be into it anyway. :p

Just try and be relaxed about it and don't worry if there are momentary lapses in conversation, that's to be expected.
