I visited XMusic recently and played a D15 and really liked it
Anyone have any opinions on this guitar?

If you liked it yourself then don't worry what others think too much!
Personally, I think its a great guitar - The cheapest all solid Martin you can get and quite distinctive being all mahogany. I'm more of a fingerpicker than a strummer so would be far more inclined to go for an 0M15 or failing that a maybe a 00015. Get the body size that suits your style. For some reason a lot of people jump straight for the dread when it might not be the best suit to their playing style.
Anyway, a good purchase I say. Will only sound better with age.

15 series are lovely sounding guitars. The look isn't to everyones taste though.

Very nice guitars for the money. Not the prettiest but they sound good. Put an LR Baggs pickup on it and they sound great plugged in, Go for it

I haven't spent 'big' money on a guitar before so I don't want to rush into parting with €1k.
Thanks to artvandulet I realise I should have said a Series 15 Martin - probably a jumbo now that I think of it.
Maybe you could tell me a bit more about the models you mentioned.

I'd go for the dread sized personally....Good for a jam with friends....on your own...or whatever really. I don't like jumbo sized ones meself. 000 size are lovely for fingerpicking but I feel the dreadnought is the most versatile.

well basically you have the following in order of size:

J15 - jumbo body
D15 - Dreadnought
OM15 - Orchestral Model
00015 - Thinner body than an OM but similar in shape
0015 - Smaller still (methinks!)

I personally favour the OM but thats just what works for me and my bad fingerpicky-strummy-sloppy technique:D. The Dread would be by far the most popular and if you are leaning towards a jumbo then I'd say an OM won't suit you! I find jumbos generally too boomy for what I do.
The problem here is that there is probably nowhere you can walk in and try 3 sizes of the same series (is there?). Good luck

Thanks again for the further replies.:)
From my limited experience I reckon the Dreadnought is for me.
I'd agree that the Jumbos tend to be a bit boomy which doesn't appeal to me.
I don't do a whole lot of finger picking but I have a nylon strung guitar for that.
