    Hi,

I'm possibly going to buy the Engl screamer 50 combo online this week. The problem is I have never actually played one!! I know I know I should try before I buy anything.

The thing is, I used the engl amp of another guy at a gig before and played my gig through it too. It was unreal. That was about 2 years ago now and it was a stack. Also, I'm unsure what model it was.

So my question is what are your opinions of the screamer combo?? Is it as versatile as they say with convincing sounds from Clean to Metal? I would like to be able to play any style thru it,

Thanks a lot for any info

I have the screamer combo myself and I think it's a good amp on it's own playing at home but in a band setting it's a bit harsh sounding. This may be due to the vintage 30 speaker in the open back cab. I went ahead and bought the engl 112v cab and sit the combo on top of the cab and I'm very happy with the sound now. The cab is expensive mind you for a 1x12 (370 smackers :()

Alright thanks for the advice... have you played any combos that you would recommend ahead of a screamer?
Your post really makes me want to try it out now. Do you know if they stock them anywhere in Ireland? Where did you get yours?
    Cheers

Cool, I'm in Limerick tho so it's a long trek up there.

Would you recommend any combos ahead of a screamer at all?

I'd try as many amps as possible before buying.
There seems to be some good buys on adverts at the moment. I think there's a few mesa's going cheap but I never personally tried them so couldn't recommend them to ya. Maybe Voodoo might be able to help you out there?
The Engl setup i have at the moment though is the best backline tone I've ever had..........yet

    Cheers for the advice fingers,

Can you run more extensions off a head or is the combo just as good for doing this? You are the second person that said it sounds much better with an extension cab.
I wouldn't be doing this but could you theoretically run a 4x12 cab from this combo? Just wondering for the future if the need arises...

What type of music do you play?

    No bother mate :)

Either or...The rear of the combo is very flexible for connecting up extension cabs. See in the image the internal speaker of the combo is connected up to the left pair of inputs.

If in the future you wanted to connect up an extension cabinet to it be it 1x12, 2x12 or 4x12 and still have sound comming from the combo's speaker you'd firstly have to make sure the extension cabinet is 8 ohms and then you would connect the combo speaker and the extension cabinet into the righside pair of poweramp outputs.
Personally i don't see the need for a 4x12...the 1x12 they make is excellent and is taylor made to have the same dimensions as the combo.

    I play all sorts...I'm in a covers band. :)
