I'm buying my first ever tube amp to go with a Marshall 1960av cab that I bought recently. I'm looking to get a Biffy Clyro/Fighting With Wire type distorted tone but I'm also looking to get some nice cleans from it too. So far I'm thinking of getting a HiWatt hi-gain 50. Has anyone any experience with these heads? What are the cleans like? How do they react with the likes of a Boss od-3?

pretty easy to get a good biffy tone from a strat with boss metal zone pedal. Simon Neils gear is a fender hot rod deville set on dirty channel, peavey delta blues and two plexi head JMP marshalls with 2 1960B cabs. I'm sure if you crank the od-3 up you'll get a slightly heavy distortion but that pedal tends to be quite thinny. Should have no problems with that amp though everytime i've tried it i had no problems with it.

Aye I knew his setup but I was just wondering what the cleans on the amp were like and how distortion pedals would sound through it. Thanks for the advice though. :)
