Can you get fluconazole OTC?

Here in the UK, you can get generic fluconazole over the counter in a pharmacy. In Ireland, my doctor prescribes Diflucan for me when she prescribes antibiotics, which is fairly expensive. Fluconazole was much cheaper OTC and I'm just wondering if you can get it OTC in Ireland too, or if you have to get a prescription from your doctor for a Brand Name version?

nope, prescription only

there are generics available on prescription which are (slightly) cheaper than diflucan

You can get it from online chemists from the uk. Im not sure if you can post websites here but pm me if you want the name of the chemist i used.

Prescription only alright. (no good reason IMO) . Online pharmacies are well dodgy so stay well clear. Best bet is go to Northern Ireland and Stock up!

Plenty of legit online pharmacies...even Boots do online prescriptions by post.

However, they'll only take NHS and UK private prescriptions.

Fair point . I meant the ones which offer drugs without prescriptions, lots of evidence they sell bootleg versions of drugs which are ineffective at best and possibly dangerous.

Incorrect. You can buy it over the counter. Just ask the pharmacist.

Sorry andrew just checked my Feb 2009 MIMS fluconazole/diflucan still prescription only in Ireland (Is OTC in the UK though)

I've seen ads in the UK recently for Canesten Oral Capsule. It's just 150mg of fluconazole too. I wonder if Canesten are doing it, will it start to become available OTC in Ireland?

You can get oral gel OTC. We got some only a couple of weeks ago.

if you have been prescribed it before you can get it as an 'emergency' OTC if you provide your details along with your GP's details.

I was considering buy it online from the UK, I see that it's sold on Amazon. I just can't understand why you have to go to the doctor and spend €60 for a prescription when the tablet itself is only €8!! :eek:

Anyone ever buy it online?
