It's not a respect thing, as I hardly think poor little Rafa is sitting behind a keyboard in his office crying into the coffee reading Boards.ie.

to be fair to event, he wasn't saying we should sack Rafa in favour of Rijkaard, merely that Rijkaard could maybe come in if, worst case, Rafa left.

Personally, I wouldn't want Rijkaard at our club as i cant see his style of football matching up with our footballing resources and we simply cant afford to go through another teardown and buildup of the squad.

If the worst were to happen, the person who comes in has to be able to come in and manage what they have available, not need to go selling off the whole team and rebuilding.

The last intervention was a friendly word, this one is a bit more formal:

If posters can't keep their emotions in check while contributing to this thread I suggest they take a voluntary break from it for a while, before I give them an involuntary one.

If other posters think that trolling is funny, here's a news flash: it's not. A weeks ban is much funnier.

    Hopefully that sinks in.

    Your friendly mod.

there ye go with the "great manager" thing again...he is hardly great...how is he great pray tell? a bit green and learning perhaps (transfers, closing out games) with potential to be "great"...but im repeatedly stunned by the proclaimations of this guys greatness...what has he done to be considered great?

hes trying to re-shape your club...and doing a good job at it...save the greatness tag for if and when he succeeds.

whilst i reckon he could do a good job, i dont think he would take it, nor would he be offered it

i think the only jobs he'd come back to are united and chelsea. and with the owners the way they are at liverpool, i dont think he'd like that. chelsea is the same, but as he has history, he would accept it i reckon.

but regardless, i couldnt see the yanks offering it. They are trying to be liked on merseyside, would be PR suicide.

where do you not see greatness here, think of the teams we overcame along the way, think of the players at his disposal, and he almost repeated the trick 2 years on

i dont have any particular love for rafa. i dont like the way he goes on, and he sorta irritates me. but thats neither here nor there, as you keep going on as if he's not very good

but with valencia and liverpool, a period spanning nearly 8 years, he has won:

    2 la liga's
    1 uefa cup
    1 champions league
    1 fa cup

now thats a pretty impressive list and this season isnt over yet

like him or not, the man is a [jamie redknapp]top, top manager[/jamie redknapp]

nothing to bite about and im not trying to wind anyone up.

rafas trying to do something that takes time...only time will tell whether he can do that...alot of pool fans on here dont trust him enough to give him that time...im merely saying that i think hes doing as good a job as anyone could have done, but this doesnt make him some kind of "managerial" god.
hes good, could be great if he proves theres method to his madness....and i dont like hearing him being called great before he has proved he is anything LIKE great.

I can't actually think of many of the top men that would want the job, board is at logger heads, high percentage of very hard to please fans, limited transfer money, average squad.

The possibilty has to be discussed that Rafa wants out and is using the rejection of 2 contracts knowing well the board won't faulter to all his demands as an excuse.

you really are nitpicking with this.

you know what us rafa supporters are going to say in his defence, you know. it's been said plenty of times in this thread. he has been great for this club, a god-send, despite flaws which the vast majority of rafa supporters will admit to.

he is not a legend, of course not, he has not been with us long enough to be considered that yet, but his management of Liverpool Football Club thus far has been 'great'. he's won trophies and has us competing at the top end of the game every year.

supporters are entitled to their opinion that rafa has maybe gotten stale and our team needs freshening up at this stage due to all the draws etc...i personally believe he shouldn't be anywhere near the exit door...but to claim he has not been a great manager for the last few years is something which isn't debatable imo.

i believe, given more time, he's as likely, even more so maybe, to get us the Holy Grail of a League title than anybody else we can get in.

to steal Llloyd's phrase...football fans, lol. how fickle we are...

Keep the Rafa posts for the new thread.

or, on the other hand (and seems more logical to me) that Rafa wants to stay and feels pretty confident he can keep rejecting inferior contracts until he gets the one he wants, as the owners will not be able to get anyone better under the circumstances.

Worth keeping in mind that should Rafa leave, and an inferior manager be hired, the clubs value as a whole decreases.

Rijkard is better than Rafa despite having an identical record in top competitions and managing a club with a virtually unlimited budget and talent.

What's hilarious is when your response to a ridiculous statement is something just as fcuking ridiculous. Unlimited budget and talent? When Rijkaard came in Barcelona had finished the season 4th. That Barcelona team was absolutely rubbish, riddled with aging and terrible quality players in many positions. Himself and Joan Laporta took over from Gaspart's absolutely shambolic campaign. He then went on to bring the team to 2nd, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

Rijkaard took them from being very much a sleeping giant into being a European heavyweight again, winning the the 2nd CL in the clubs history. If it wasn't for Rijkaard and Laporta changing the fortunes of Barcelona (largely thanks to the acquisition of Ronaldinho) they would probably be struggling every season to qualify for the CL. Rijkaard and Laporta RAISED those 'unlimited funds' by changing the fortunes of the club and making it a marketable giant. It's not like Rijkaard was given 500 million in one season and was allowed to spend on whoever he wanted.

Also, if you're going to say something about the talent Barcelona got from the youth set up and bought over the past 5 years, don't ****ing forget to mention the amazing Valencia team that Benitez inherited from Hector Cuper. A manager who brought them to two consecutive CL finals. He inherited Santiago Cañizares, Roberto Ayala, Rubén Baraja, David Albelda and Pablo Aimar and they provided the backbone of Benitez's Valencia team, hardly a bunch of duffers.

The way you talk you'd swear Valencia CF were fcuking Tenerife before Benitez arrived and Barcelona were winning league after league before Rijkaard joined. When the reality is both managers did an excellent job in their respective positions and were both funded quite well. What is it with the belittling that's going on in this forum these days. F*cking sick of it tbh.
