Bookmakers have suspended betting on the next Premier League boss to leave his job after a huge amount of money was placed on Rafael Benitez to be the ninth manager to go this season.

On Tuesday night the Spaniard was a 20/1 outsider to be next out of his job, but an enormous flurry of betting activity saw the price cut to evens before the markets were suspended at 9.30 on Wednesday morning.

Gillett and Hicks still have a few bob then

Bookies are very rarely wrong lads.

I can't see Rafa being the Liverpool manager next season.

remember the days when Liverpool Football Club was a place of stability, a place to be proud of (particularly in terms of how it's managers are treated), and a perfect example of how an elite football club should be run?

if rafa goes, i'm afraid we can kiss these ideals that we have cherished so much goodbye.

Funny, from where I'm standing, all the shít-flinging at the club over the last two years has started from the same source.

Meh, don't be such a drama queen. Maybe, if he goes, whoever comes in to replace him will enable us to at last mount a decent title challenge.

ooooooooooook. Thank you Mr. Gill. Or are you Jose's agent?

I think the United job is exactly the type of job Jose would want - massive club, money to spend, control over all football matters from the first team to the academy, no interference from the owners.

yes i negotiated his inter contract and his chelsea one. Ok Liverpool are a massive club and he would get control over everything and the owners never appointed rafa, thats their problem with him. Money to spend isn't as much an issue as made out. He didnt have a lot to spend at Porto.
I'll discuss it more at length should rafa leave but its not really fair now to do it,

I wont be in the slightest surprised should rafa leave just like i wont be surprised if he gets the sack. The writings on the wall anyway in my opinion

I remember the noises being made when Gerrard was apparently on his way out of Liverpool a few years ago. At that time I felt that while he was undoubtedly our best player, the club was bigger than any one man and I had faith that the £30 million or whatever from his sale would have been reinvested in the squad making Liverpool stronger overall.

With the noises of today I still feel that Liverpool as a club is bigger than one man. It survived the loss of Shankly, Paisley and Dalglish. It will survive Benítez too if/when he goes. With that said, I hope and pray that he doesn't go too soon!

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Bookies are a joke tbh. How many favourites where there for the Ireland job, the Newcastle job and hundreds more?

Rafa has most certainly done some things that wouldn't nescessarily be in the Liverpool way, but in a row between Rafa -vs- Parry,Gillette & Hicks. I know whos side i'm on & he can act in whatever he sees fit to rid our club of the cancer thats in it.

Delighted to see that nobody could come up with a proper choice to replace Rafa. Mourinho would never EVER come here after seeing the way Rafa has been treated. O'Neill can fúck right off with his horrible long ball hoofing football. Im also glad to see a few people agreeing with me that if Rafa does go then it will set us back years.

And as for the Dalglish rumour  , please let that be a joke.

    dalglish, a joke

    short memory have we

Everyone says we have a shít, average squad, even with this squad Rafa has us challenging for the title. You dont go from 4th to champions in one year.

Fairly pathetic if he leaves now, 3 days after it is pretty much confirmed we won't be winning the title.

Great player, our best ever apparently. Was handed an amazing squad, when they started to show their age he was out of the place very quickly. Everyone blames Souness, a bit of the blame should be given to Dalglish IMO. And it would be an absolute joke if he got the Liverpool job this summer, he's been out of the game for close to 10 years(if not more) and his last fulltime job was a shambles at Newcastle IIRC.

A lot of the bookies today have admited they have absolutey no inside info on Rafa going. They are working on pure rumour alone. As a matter of fact think i'll head down the bookies later and throw a few quid on Rafa being in charge come the start of next season

Like the title challenge we're involved in at the minute?

If he goes, we will slide out of contention for European competitions & the league over the next 18mths.

Oh yea-Gerrard will most probably leave too. Torres, Reina & Mascherano wont be far behind either imo.

Jose wont come to Liverpool. Ever.

People seem to forget that when Rafa took the job with us, the three canditates were Strachan, Curbishly and Benitez.

It'll be worse now with the joke we have become we will only be of interest to ****e managers. Jose is the highest paid manager in the world-Rafa gets paid less than David Moyes.]

All true - Mourinho's deal is supposedly worth €14m a year. Can anyone see G&H matching that? Can anyone see Mourinho taking over where he does not have full control over transfers [what Rafa wants] after what happened at Chelsea with Schevchenko? Can anyone see him wanting to work on a limited budget. No way will Mourinho become Liverpool manager while G&H remain in charge. Things might change with new owners but who knows when that will happen.

If Rafa leaves, it is quite simply a disaster for Liverpool & entirely one of its own making due to its shocking mismanagement at board room level. It will imo, spell a disasterous period for us.

Totally agree - I'm just hoping/thinking that this is a case of people thinking because Rafa hasn't signed a new contract yet and because he didnt want to discuss it at the press conference, people are making the jump to him automatically leaving. So far there has been no concrete news whatsoever so I've hopefully it's just people getting ahead of themselves

Also I would have no faith in G&H getting anything like a suitable replacement for Rafa if they did screw up and get rid of him. If they had to go for a replacement, I wouldn't expect them to be remotely willing to pay reasonable wages for a top manager and instead would expect them to get in someone young and relatively unproven who would be very unlikely to give them any trouble whatsoever, that is if they could agree on a candidate.:mad:

I'll be honest on this. If we lose Rafa it will be just what we fúcking deserve for the way he has been treated. The man is in the top 5 managers in world football and people doubt him. He has got this "Average to shít" squad to challenge for the league title,

In fairness he assembled the "average to shít squad", roughly 50 in 50 out players.
    Melion wrote: »
he has totally revamped our whole club from the ground up. We now have potentially world class youngsters ready to come through as opposed to the likes of Jon Otsemobor and Neil Mellor etc.

    Impossible assumption to make.
    Melion wrote: »
I couldn't give a flying fúck how he treated Robbie Keane, Peter Crouch and Craig Bellamy or anyone else he has shipped out "unfairly". They werent good enough in his eyes to wear the shirt so he got rid of them, well done Rafa!

Again he bought them, but you absolve him from any responsibilty.
    Melion wrote: »
If a new man comes in, what happens? He gets rid of the players he doesnt like and brings in his own players, who can say if they would work?

It's the first thing I would do, there is some shocking players at the club.
    Melion wrote: »
He doesnt see the potential in Pacheco, Nemeth, Dalle Valle etc and ships them out for free which sets us back 10-15 years with regards to our youth system.

Relax, no manager is going to come in and say get rid of the youth team and say "get me another bunch of kids."

Who the hell could do what Rafa has done for us? From barely scraping into the Champions League places to fighting for a title in 5 years, thats not good enough for us? BÓLLOX!!! We were on a serious downward spiral towards the end of the Houllier era, Rafa came in and changed all of that. I truly believe if he had a bit more control over who he could sign then we would have a premiership title in the bag, if not more than 1.

It wasn't like Liverpool were battling relegation FFS, Houllier had his success's and potentially will have got them nearer the league title than Rafa.
    Melion wrote: »
If the unthinkable happens tomorrow night and he does walk out, it will set us back years. We will be years away from ever putting together a challenge like this again so for anyone going to Anfield this season, how about this?

I think you need to take a deep breath. :pac:

    Rafa won't go.

He knows that Dumb and Dumber will be gone in the summer, (or at least that Gilette will, and he can work with Hicks it seems).

Rafa knows how special he is to something special here, and he wants to succeed.
He'll be our manager next season, as long as he's not actually fired.

How is it? It must be great to be so fúcking negative all the time. As i said in my post last night, how about this? Get behind the fúcking team, get behind the manager instead of sitting on here whinging and moaning about how shít we are, how we'll win nothing and how disgraceful Rafa is.

And thats not personal abuse is it?

christ this place gets frustrating at times. Of course theres still an outside chance of winning the league! ManU are obviously massive favourites, and Liverpool need to win each of their remaining games (something they did from this point onwards last season in the league).

A liverpool win puts the gap at 4points with ManU having to play ManCity, Villa and Arsenal. Christ you'd swear they were just wiping teams from their path rather then looking very shaky at times and getting pretty lucky only a few days ago against Blackburn!
