Shure SM58 vs BETA 58A

    Hey guys.

    I'm about to buy a new vocal mic online. Funds are tight and I need a mic quickly! Here are the two I've narrowed it down to:

    New Shure SM58 = €80
    Used Shure BETA 58A = €90

    What would you guys advise?...

    definitely the beta, its a really great mic and €90 is a great price presuming its in pwo.

    I've bought one SM58 but my drummer said he' take that for backing vocals if I go for the Beta.

    Maybe. If someone owns a rake of mics and prefers a Beta 58A, so be it but I would doubt that's the case. I suspect a lot of first time buyers think it'll beat an SM58 simply because it's more expensive or it has a flashy blue ring and sounds honkier brighter.

    i sang through a sm58 for ages but switched to a beta 58 about 6 months ago after using one at a gig. i think the sm58 is a good mic but the beta58 is more responsive to subtle changes in position and tone when singing, regardless of what i ever did with the sm58 i always ended up singing everything up close (eating the mic!:)). with the beta i can back away for shouty bits, move in for falsetto notes etc. and it responds like i want it to.
