I think more of the players should be publically backing Rafa.

How can a player be publicly backing Rafa - he has 1 striker (which now has a dodgy hamstring) and sells the only other proven striker - what will he do next?? I'm waiting a very long time for a League title and now its ruined

The players dont know what he is going to do next

Next on list - Make Lucas captain

What happened to the rules about who got access to this board? Wasnt it 300 posts or something like that?

Or don't be so condescending and accept some criticism of Rafa every now and then.

To be Fair John though-how is it in Liverpool or Xabi Alonso's best interests for said player to come out and give anything less than public support?

Oh no someone said something stupid on the internet!

FF time - Barca to buy Ribery and let Henry go this summer is in the papers, would he work at Pool? And if so which formation? I'd guess 4-3-3 would work best but would require a few things to happen that Rafa doesn't do.
First drop Kuyt, second play Babel on the right and third drop a CM oh an get Gerrard to play wide right.

    Reina
    Arby--Carra-Skrtel-Insua
    Gerrard---Alonso----Riera
    --Babel---Torres--Henry

    Or maybe

    Reina
    Arby--Carra-Skrtel-Insua
    Alonso--Masch
    -Babel---Gerrard--Henry
    Torres

    I was being ironic! ;)

You can say what you like about LFC so long as its not random and based in some logic (however flawed). Some here are less charitable than me though.

That'd be a poor bit of business.

Irony noted - Also note the irony in Rafa selling players and not buying when we are this close to a league title.. The blame for failure this season will be firmly at Rafa's door.... United are laughing at us

Why don't you read over the last 10k posts in this thread before wading in with your oh-so-fresh and eye-opening opinions.

Hell, read over the last 50 and you'll see how repetitive you are.

Correct me if im wrong but this is a manager who gave the following players a champions league winners medal.
Dudek, Biscan, Nunez, Josemi, Traore, Baros, Kewell and Cisse. Were they "Liverpool class"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,608 ✭✭✭✭noodler

No but they are all gone now. You see?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 10,259 ✭✭✭✭Melion

And would you take any of them over a proven international like Kuyt who IMO has done nothing wrong this season except get tired over the last few games or a relatively untried Brazilian international with bags of potential in Lucas who had done nothing wrong until the Wigan game.

The fact is, they are both very important squad players, If Alonso is missing then Lucas slots straight in. Obviously he is not at the same level as Xabi yet but he's not going to improve sitting on the bench.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,608 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Of course Kuyt is important. It is clear to see, even when he is not contributing up front he is always closing down and tracking back.

The criticism IMO would be that just because the man never gets tired doesn't mean he shouldn't be subbed once in a while when we need a goal.

I find it hard to justify Lucas though.

    Ok, situation time :D

Alonso or Masch get injured tomorrow. Who would you rather have sit in midfield? Lucas, Plessis, Spearing? He is our 3rd choice central midfielder(Maybe 4th if you drop Stevie back), thats where he should be at the minute. He is 21 and learning from 3 of the best midfielders in world football(Im not arguing this point with anyone so dont bother), he has a huge future with us IMO.

Hes 22. People are definitely being too hard on Lucas. He does need to learn to tackle though. Hes such a clumsy tackler. He just seems to go in without thinking and almost always leaves his leg in.

Selling them for an even smaller proportion in the Summer would be worse business.

Sorry, 22. In a few years i dont think tackling will be an important part of his game. He is an attacking midfielder being asked to adapt to our way of playing and sitting back in a defensive role. Fúck it, Scholes is 34-35 and still hasn't learned how to tackle, it never held him back.

Ha Great minds think alike - There are similarities there with Scholes all right. Don't let the Man Utd fans hear this as it could easily be a toys-out of pram situation

Given that Alonso is definitely out of the Man City game and Stevie will most likely still be out, it's pretty clear that Lucas and Masch will be playing CM in that game. Cant imagine Plessis or Spearing being seriously considered.

    You rang????

I seem to recall Liverpool fans jumping on United fans over trying to make comparisons between Anderson and Scholes. Both equally stupid arguments.

I don't get why Lucas is a target for such abuse. He's a young player, he's learning his trade. If he works out, he's a cheap top quality player. There are going to be some growing pains. You judge Lucas as a purchase after a couple of years and see whether he was worth the money. You don't call for him to be gone because he got sent off or has had a few poor matches. You realise that at that age, Gerrard had some poor games aswell, series of them too.
The kids obviously got the talent to succedd, whether it be in England or in Spain.

And where is the creativity gonna come from now?? How many goals have we scored in games that Alonso has missed? We look very very ordinary without Alonso

Melion, it's 50 posts. And take it that once someone has been granted access, they are allowed to post their opinion once it doesn't breach the charter. Cheers.

Dudek was great and "Liverpool class"!

Come on and do the Dudek
    Do the Jerzy Dudek
Shake it, shake it, move it
Jump up and wave your gloves!

    We’re the one and only
    Euro Campione
Who get to keep the trophy
    The rest aint good enough!

    One night in Turkey
    Some lads from the Mersey
They never gave up the fight

    We went bananas
    Sons and their fathers
As they set the city alight

    Oh-oh-eeay-oh...eeay-oh
    Carragher’s brilliant advice
    Oh-oh-eeay-oh...eay-oh
    Eeeay-oh-oh-oh

Come on and do the Dudek

    Euro Campione

Who get to keep the trophy
    The rest aint good enough!

    At 3-nil we were stuffed
We thought it was all over
    But come the second half
We played them off the park!

    Stevie...Steve Gerrard
    Ee-zey...He’s in command

    Oh-oh-eeay-oh...eay-oh
    Grobbelaar’s come back to life
    Oh-oh-eeay-oh...eay-oh
    Eeeay-oh-oh-oh

Come on and do the Dudek
    Do the Jerzy Dudek
Shake it, shake it, move it
Jump up and wave your gloves!

    We’re the one and only
    Euro Campione
Who get to keep the trophy
    The rest aint good enough!

When we scored three in six
    The Mersey boyz were laughing
    Then Jerzey’s double save
And we’re back from the grave!

    Eu-ro...Cam-pio-ne!!
    Heroes...of the Mersey

Come on and do the Dudek
    Do the Jerzy Dudek

Just doing nothing wrong is not enough, never even mind how much they are gettin paid... Theyre wearin a liverpool shirt... wearin the shirt and "Doin nothing wrong" doesnt cut it

christ give them a fkin break like!

Kuyt works harder for the team then any other player. THAT is what Liverpool is all about. Putting everything in for the jersey. Kuyt adds a Lot as well as putting everything in. He's on a run of poor games at the moment, but at the start of teh season he was one of our top (if not our top) performers and without his input earlier in the season we would not even have a title charge. He's not the best in the world, but considering liverpools finances, he's certaintly not the worst. Hopefully we'll be able to upgrade at some point, but until then we shoudl lay off him

Lucas is a young fella. You dont buy top notch world class players for 5million. You buy potential for 5 million and hope that in 5 years time, with experience and time on the field that they develope into top class players. He's 4th choice, and as such is pretty much ideal.

The creatitivity is going to come from the eleven players on the pitch, which will more than likely include Lucas.

I'd like it if we were able to play Alonso. Maybe I should ask the FA pretty please can he play?;) Somehow I don't think that's going to happen. So we need to live in the real world and deal with it.

You put forward the proposition that Lucas should have been sold in the transfer window for €1. If that had happened our options would most likely have been Spearing(no mins played in the league this year) or Plessis (45 mins played in the league this year). What sort of creativity do you think we would have then?

Christ this thread is more depressing than hearing about the recession at times....

We get it - Liverpool are $hit, Rafa is $hit, Rafa is cracking up, Team aint up to scratch, Liverpool spent 2 billion, Squad doesnt match Chelsea or Utd's, One man team, two man team, Robbie fcuking Keane, no chance of silverware etc etc etc.......

If things finish as they are it will have been a great season for Liverpool. Its been a long time since a team that didnt finish 1st or 2nd won the league the following year, and its even longer since one that finished 4th did it. We've had a poor run lately and we've fallen back but we are still well in with a shout this year. And this is coming on the back of all the boardroom crap and a squad believed to be pi$$ poor in comparison to Utd and Chelsea. We wanted to be challenging, we are challenging.

I just dont get why people who "support" Liverpool are only happy giving out about them?

Have you considered that maybe Rafa couldn't buy anyone in this window - regardless of what happened with Keane ? The club is skint - that should be obvious to anyone (considering the loans, extensions on loans, etc..). We got very little in cash back for Keane (the bulk of the initial fee was paid by canceling the money we still owed to Spurs for him) and there's no guarantees that money would have been made available to Rafa but even if it had - a couple of m wouldn't have gone very far. Sure he could have bought in another bit part player but then people would have slated him for buying more dross.

I'm disappointed we didn't get anyone in on loan but I'm not in the least bit surprised that we didn't buy. From what I've seen & heard we did make enquiries about Quaresma on loan but obviously that didn't work out. That we didn't go for anyone on loan earlier in the window makes me wonder if the wages bill was an issue.

If you think things were bad during the January window you'll be in for a shock in the summer unless there's significant 3rd party investment in the club.
    United are laughing at us
tbh - who gives a flying f$#% what Utd are doing ?
