Yea Lucas was getting the blame for it last night by the usual suspects.

Lucas needs to be taught when not to tackle, you could see it happening the moment he set off to make the interception.

    it's his hamstring

so, it could be very likely be 3 months.

no-one said it definitely is, not in this thread.

My 2c (FWIW) on the current topics de jour of the Liverpool and match threads.

At the start of the season I was happy if Liverpool were in a title race, I did not expect to win the league. However from the strong position we are in I want to go on and win it even though I feel it will be difficult.

I did care about going out of the FA cup, a lot of fans seem to be very blasé about going out but I thought it was a good chance of silverware. The cup win in 06 was special and if Rafa had not won that, there would be even more clamour for his head.

Lucas is a good young player, he has had a few good games and a few terrible games. I thought he was good yesterday, the second card was deserved, the first was harsh but I think Alan Wiley was just trying to even cards out after handing out a few deserved ones to Everton players.

Kuyt is a hard worker but offers little going forward in his current position this area is one that needs improving on. He is a great squad player and important in big games so should be kept.

I feel we are a little short on options now that Keane is gone but think that Rafa saw someting that he didn't like. I also feel that money is tight and that has had a major impact on his sale. Keane was 28 with a long (4yr?) contract so little or no resale value would have been recouped if he had fulfilled his contact.

We are lucky Gerrard is injured over the international break, it could have come at a lot worse times. Hopefully we can beat Portsmouth without him, and I feel we can.

The owners should either sell up and F off or should put up some investment in the team and shut up.

I don't want us to leave Anfield, I understand the financial implications but it is a super ground, I don't want another souless Riverside or Emiratesesq stadium.

Rafa is a quality manager who has the team competing at a very high level. Some of his decisions such as team selection and substitutions are strange and difficult to understand the logic behind them. His record in the transfer market has been patchy, some good signings in my opionion are:
Reina, Arbeloa, Macherano, Torres & Skrtel.
    Some poor ones include:
    Dossena, Josemi, Pennant & Degan.
What I do like is the non stubborn nature of realising a poor signing and shipping them off for good values i.e. Kromkamp, Nunez & Gonzales.
As the board of directors in FM would say the board (Me) are satisfied with your performance.

He could also be fit by the weekend and he could have been taken off as a precaution..

Lets wait until he has the scan..

And no, that isn't me trying to convince myself that all is well and Rafa was right to sell Keane..

Guessing how long he will be out is fair enough after it has been confirmed that there is a problem but he hasn't even had a scan yet.

Lets hope so. Is it true Lucas and Alonso are suspended?

i could be wrong, but i think Alonso's suspension starts after the Pompey game, so he'd miss City.

Otherwise we would have the situation of Masch being the only fit/not banned midfielder in the first team.

    Maybe:

Plessis and Masch behind Benayoun? I am assuming he sticks with 4-2-3-1

I would love Spearing to get a shout, class player just needs to get a run out.

Gerrard out for 3 weeks. Could have been worse - link

Perfect amount of time, assuming we can get a win at Portsmouth. Means he'll miss the internationals :)

No, spearing is not class, have you watched a single reserve game this year? Irwin is better and younger, someone who might actually have a future at the club.

Spearing will never make it here imo. He isn't great at anything. His passing is ok, his tackling is ok. He's very small as well which doesn't help. He's been talked up by Liverpudlians because they are naturally desperate for a local lad to make it.

So he will miss the Portsmouth game and the Man City game for definite. While remaining a doubt for the Real Madrid game.

Also, Man. City game, so return will be dead on Madrid game maybe!!

I'd be quite confident he'll be back for the City game and definitely the Madrid game.

Gerrard out for three weeks with hamstring tear. Could have been worse, he'l probably only miss the Pompey game what with the F.A Cup and International break coming up

I see i'm as late with the news of Gerrard as some of Everton's tackles last night!!

I think that rushing a return from a hamstring injury could lead to longer absence.

my thinking exactly, last thing we need is him gone for longer. if that means not playing him in the forst madrid game then so be it. Time for other players to stand up and be counted.

I have a feeling he'll make the Madrid game fine. Liverpool always have a habit of overestimating the amount of time required for recovery. Always put down out the most pessimistic possibility. How often have we heard "player is recovering much quicker then expected". Barring a setback (always a worry with hamstrings and groins), i think we'll be fine.

    well done to the lad.

not seen much of him at all, just really the PSV game mentioned in the article where he looked at least decent.

any of the better informed liverpool fans here know more about him and his qualities?

On the plus side from last night I thought Benayoun had a very good game. As someone who has been critical of him I'm pleased that he has discovered some form and hope that it continues. He was very involved last night and saw a lot of the ball.

I thought Lucas had a decent game, sending off aside. Even though he was getting very little in the way of help from Alonso I thought he did really well in the centre of the park against the Everton midfield and was the reason we were on top there in the first half. Also I think he is still a relatively young player and getting used to playing regularlly in the PL. I think he has come on a long way from where he was when he first started when on occasion he looked very overawed to be on the pitch sometimes. I'm of the opinion that he will continue to improve the more game time he gets. Also I think he will probably learn to be a bit more careful with his tackling between this and the penalty. It's a bit of a shame he'll be suspended now as I wouln't have minded seeing himself and Masch play together.

Also Babel looked lively when he came on. Fingers crossed that it is the start of some decent form from him.

On the negative side Nando did look tired. I think it might be a case of not having his fitness back after the injury. I wouldnt mind one bit if he "picked up a knock" in the Portsmouth game to keep him out of the meaningless international. Kuyt and Riera both looked very patchy and there seemed to be some fatigue. It's possible that Kuyt might be feeling the effects of playing so much and I would think that Rafa needs to rotate him a bit more. These are another two I wouldn't mind getting a rest during international week.

I think we are pretty fortunate that we are getting Portsmouth now as they don't look anywhere near as good as they were at the start of the season. Three points against them is vital. We need to be weary of the curse of former players especially given that they have Crouch, Defoe and James in their starting eleven.

Good to see players coming through from the academy. Keeps things nicely ticking over.

I would not be underestimating them away from home, ever. They still have some quality players littered throughout the team that boast caps and experience. Their fans tend to be fantastic for games against the big teams. And the very fact that they will not be expected to win could be liberating for them mentally.

And then on our side of the equation, we are missing Gerrard and have just come out of a hard fought 120 mins which brought a deflating end result.

    Gonna be a tough encounter.

Is there any news on Torres? He seemed very worn out against Everton, and got a hell of a kicking out there.
