Driving home from work this evening I could see the garda helicopter hovering not too far from the airport. There were also 2 larger helipcopters orbiting the garda helicopter and all 3 were slowly moving southwards over the M50.

When I then crossed the M50 I had a peer down and saw a whole load of garda bikers with their lights flashing, didn't get a chance to see much else before moving on. Obviously all were escorting someone or something, anyone else come across it ?

No, the post mentions that this was nowhere near the city centre and it was the evening, not the afternoon when the protest was on.

    It was cash in transit.

I'd be surprised it was cash in transit being trailed by 3 helicopters, it appeared to me it may have been some head of state or something similar.

French rugby team arriving I'd say...

Once again it was cash in transit heading to the national mint in Sandyford.

    This

Worked on the M50 for a while and this was a common occurrance. Lots of police, army and trucks with 2 drivers in each one. And even spare tractor units

Ooh.. I read in the paper today that they were only setting up base in Merrion Hotel tomorrow, so I presumed that's when they were arriving (would be a bit late though now that I think of it).

Who would rob the French rugby team? I'd like to meat their fence.

    Bluetonic's on the money.

Cheers. Who were the 2 other helicopters from then ? I use the M50 a fair but too and have never come across that many escorting cash in transit.

Gerry Adams is in Dublin today. Could that be it??

Doubt it, the state shouldn't spend the money on a single garda on escorting him, let alone several bikes and 3 helicopters.

Saw this as well coming across the M50. I assumed it was something fairly serious on the move with Garda helicopter plus 2 Army choppers with I assume the ARW inside(?) Couldn't see any Securicor van/truck in the convoy, just a lot of army jeeps.

If it was cash in transit, where was the cash coming from?
