Double Bass

Am looking for help in relation to sourcing a double bass.
I am an electric bass player. Havent done much fretless playing, but have always wanted to take up the standup. Now that I have time since my contract is up, I figure I might aswell start. Thing is, I know very little about em.
I am not particularily tall, not a short arse either, so i figure a 3/4 size one would suit best. Have tried electric uprights before-not a fan, want the full-bodied acoustic type. Because of my work situation, I couldnt really spend more than 4or500 euro
I am just looking to start with simple rockabilly-type stuff, nothing too jazzy (or difficult!lol) maybe gig with it later on.
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers

3/4 size is actually the standard. As for budget Uprights, Thomann sell some Czech made uprights for just under a grand. They also sell Chinese ones but I'd steer clear of those, the setup to get it playing properly would probably cost as much. They're usually referred to as CCB's (cheap chinese basses).

Their Kontrabass 1, 2, 3, 11, 22, 33, are all made by Strunal in Czech Republic and generally get good reviews. They start at around 799 for a laminate top.

I'll second the Strunel. I have one, and it's quite nice for a budget bass. My budget was thrice yours though. I really don't play it enough. :o Thomann will set it up for you as well, depending on the style you want.
