Yeah, now he looks like a cross between a melted candle and a thunderbird puppet.

Funny enough, I seen a picture of Faye Dunaway in a paper a few weeks back. You could've captioned it "Some times, you should just let it go".

Rourke is just another American idiot like all the NYPD and NYFD that supported the Terrorist Groups in Ireland, Funny how they are all quiet now after 9/11. The IRA are Scum i would have ripped the Good Friday Agreement up and Executed all IRA members.

Ulster should be given back to Ireland i do agree, its a ****e hole.
The IRA killed more Catholics than anyone, MMMM Killing their own isnt a good way to get the Brits out. They also killed pregnant women and children, tarred and feathred and shot people for just talking to Protestants or being in a relationship with one. Yeah the Brits did commit crimes but dont remember them blowing up preganant civilians.

Taleban and the IRA are the same.. Religous nuts:rolleyes:

Self Hatred in oppressed groups hold back progress. If anyone thinks that people who fight back against British imperialism (or anybody else's) are scumbags then they are sadly ignorant of Irish history.

The Good Friday Agreement is another step toward making up for 300 years of slavery. But there are many yet to go....

Are you actually a northern unionist or one of those really "interesting" Irish people who decides to become sympathetic to hardline unionists just... for the sake of being different?

Do bear in mind there are also the loyalist paramilitaries and corrupt police and other security forces.
Taleban and the IRA are the same.. Religous nuts:rolleyes:
The religious nuts up there are the Orange Order and Apprentice Boys. The IRA were fairly secular.

"Londonderry" - how non inflammatory of you! :)
Actually mates of mine from the North have told me nobody under 60 refers to it as Londonderry, only unionists when they want to piss off nationalists. The place is called Derry by the way, it comes from "Doire", the Irish for "oak".

It doesn't make a person a "West Brit" (grrrr) if they cringe at the sight of a tattoo glorifying a violent, terrorist organisation.

The "lack of basic human rights" is a bullsht myth. The catholics and the protestants coexisted peacefully until Bernadette Devlin & co. started spouting hate and creating trouble out of thin air. There was some preference in housing and jobs and some gerrymandering in elections but nothing that couldn't have been resolved peacefully. The IRA are, and were, scumbag gangsters who brutally tortured and murdered countless innocent people, and ruined peoples lives, and all for nothing. And you dare to support them?

Also most Irish were happy to consider themselves British until 1916. Many gladly went off and fought in WW1. Indeed many went in WW2 also, out of a retained loyalty. By 1916 the people of Ireland were considered part of the Empire, and were by no means "immorally enslaved".

    Sure.

The Catholics of Derry were always very happy with their lot back in the day.

I think the word you're looking for is "subjugation".

How can you come out with that crap at this time of the year, it was all peaceful protests until the B specials got away with anything they wanted and the British Para's opened fire in Derry

The troubles were created out of thin air. Nothing that couldn't have been resolved peacefully. Scumbag elements fanned the flames for their own agenda. This has been confirmed to me by many people from there at the time.

so laughably incorrect i don't know where to start.

yes, the troubles were created out of thin air, there was no conflict before that.

    christ almighty.

There was a slither of truth in what petrochemical said. Look up fur coat unionists. Before Sinn Fein got involved there were Protestants involced in the civil rights movement. Obviously there were a larger amount of Catholics as there were far more of them in the working classes

"In 1967, the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association was set up. Its members were drawn from both communities, although mainly from Nationalist Catholics who were more at a disadvantage under the Stormont government. The NICRA's demands were for a fair voting system ('one man one vote'), an end to gerrymandering, and end to religious discrimination, disbandment of the B-Specials and general equality for all the people of Northern Ireland. As the first Civil Rights marches took place in August 1968, Stormont began banning them because they were illegal (i.e. the police had not been notified of the intention to march). The marchers ignored the ban and, on various marches, were attacked and beaten by the police with battons. Stormont received condemnation from around the world. Eventually O'Neill relented and agreed to some of the demands. The NICRA then called off its campaign."

Your mates are telling you a wee fib there. I live in Derry and plenty of people say Londonderry without needing to offend nationalists. Maybe Belfast is different but I seriously doubt it.

It doesn't really matter what your mates say when they are talking ****e, go there and then say the same thing. :)

I'm not saying it's gospel or anything, just something they said which interested me.

I'm sure they said it and that wikipedia says it and you could even google it and it would say that but when you visit it's not really true. :P
Although a lot of people seem to call it both and say derry a lot as a shortening of londonderry even when they believe it should be called that as per the charter of the city

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

I was in Derry for about a week around the time of the GFA - can't remember what people called it tbh. I was visiting mostly republican areas though so... possibly "Derry". :)

The mates who said that thing to me are from Derry.

It's still Londonderry city, there was a recent court case to clarify it.

It's "The Walled City" now apparently. :D

It's pronounced "Dorry" so you're all technically wrong anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,283 ✭✭✭PrivateEye

People only call it Londonderry when they're looking for a wind-up, like the gobsh/te from the D.U.P who called the All-Ireland Final an 'international event' last year.

    Stroke city, don't mind 'em.

YEP, there's a Council for a city that doesn't exist.

Irish solution to an Irish problem! ;)
