IMRA season and Boards AC team

As a lot of you know, the IMRA winter season is about to start soon. http://www.imra.ie/events/ I don't know how far it is down the road to getting Boards AC affiliated with AAI, but in the interim I see no reason why anyone interested shouldn't register "Boards" (or "Boards AC", "Boards IT") when filling out their registration form at the first race.

There's many raggle-taggle and informal groups in the team section during these races, as well as serious AC's. Quite often, some of the races won't have enough members to award a second or third team prize, which (along with the glory!) often goes begging.

Seeing as how Boards AC have had a lot of success with getting a team of people who want to run, run as a team (with BHAA), I think the IMRA route would very much compliment this, without an awful lot of politics involved. It would also allow anyone who is affiliated with an AAI club, to run and compete under the Boards banner (granted I'm only 90% sure of this, but the IMRA bunch seem very relaxed about letting people run. I could check this out).

    Any takers?

I'll be running the Howth yoke next weekend. Happy to put myself down as BAC.

Yes! Count me in.. I'm currently only 2% into the Club100 , but hoping to do a lot more races this year, hopefully debut'ing in Ticknock, on the first of Feb.

Yeah, teams can be completely informal and don't need to be based on official clubs of any kind.

Great, thanks for the clarification, Enduro. This refreshing informality is the kind of thing that helps make IMRA so special.

And in case you're looking for a 2009 team, the Boards AC embrace is very large... how 'bout it?
    :D

You never know! I'm not actually a member of any athletic club so I'm actually down with my (former!) orienteering club.

    Well consider yourself signed :D

I'll be at Howth on the 18th of Jan, so looking forward to meeting a few more, singlets are not too far away,I have them picked out but have to wait for Mick to get back from his holidays. Could you imagine singlets with your username on the back, running down a mountain and shouting I'm going to get you Clown, eh Krusty :D

Go for it! It would certainly be a great spur to the team, and help get other Boards AC members out on the hills. Who knows, you may even win a prize!;)

Alright then, I'll change my club to Boards AC for the Winter League. Unfortunately I'm unlikely to make Howth :(. But Hopefully I'll make at least 3 of the races.

28th of June 1995, on there site in the archives, it has the name Trevor Byrne, well thats my cousin and guess who else was part of that relay team, yep yours truly and my sister. First and only race I won until Boards IT. Now if I remember correctly there wasn't much in the way of other teams running it :D
I'm nearly sure it's that race but the page won't open

I'll be at Howth. See you there! Its a new route apparantly this year (for those of you who've done it before.)

So I've been looking at the results of the Howth run. For those who don't know, it's the first of five 'Winter League' races where a teams first three finishers are counted. The best 3 'set of three' results from the five races are counted at the end. So a quick look at yesterday's results looks something like this

    Cloniffe - 30 (They placed 3rd, 8th & 19th, if you get me ?)
    Rathfarnam - 38 (1,15,22)
    Sli Cualann - 43 (10,16,17)
    Sportsworld - 52 (11, 20, 21)
    Boards AC - 69 (14,27,28)
    Crusaders - 81 (5,31,45)
    UCD - 100
    3D Triathlon - 107
    Fingal - 297
    Trim - 309

And a pretty big field (175) by IMRA standards.

    Last years top three were
Crusaders AC - 85 (so that's the total of their best three races)
    Sli Cualann - 138
    Setanta - 179

So next one is Ticknock in two weeks, I know it clashes with some other stuff so the question is, will Boards AC be able to get a team together for it. Reading back on this thread we had a number intersted in Howth who didn't make it in the end. I wonder will we have the necessary numbers for Ticknock ?

    (I'm up for it anyway).

Great post Rusty! We'll have a team for sure at Ticknock, I'm in for the long haul, and SJ is duty bound to drive us there:).
The interesting thing about those team stats, is how vital every placing is. Every place you can make up in the final sprint is one score lower for the team, and quite possibly one point added onto a rival. I've no doubt that we'll move up the rankings in races where we have a few more members. And thats when I'll have to fight hard to keep my scoring place on the team!

Good post Rusty. I will be running IMRA races especially in the summer. For the Ticknock race I'm going to be racing in Dungarvan and it's a shame as it's just up the road from me. Anna curra will be my IMRA debut of the year on valentines day and that is for sure.

I intend to make Ticknock. See y'all there, hopefully.

175 was a very big field for a winter race. good to see.

Will try to make some of the runs during the summer, schedule is a bit mad between now and belfast don't think i can fit another run/race in.

Hmmm, my loyalty is divided at the minute between Boards and Slí Cualann, But having ran for UCD at all the IMRA races for the last 3years despite Slí Cualann being my main club, I have to put down Slí Cualann for this year :D:D:D. Which brings me on to the team results above, I should have been put down as a Slí Cualann runner for Howth instead of UCD, so that would put Slí Cualann on 30points alongside Clonliffe!

Anyway, good luck with the Boards team, its great to see even more competition for the team prize!

IMRA loves everyone and for the sanity of the poor unfortunates trying to get the runner details onto da laptop please try to arrive early for registration.
There's some running sluts on this forum anyway!
Enduro dropping Setanta and Timmaay Timmaay Timmaay, after all Wickla did for ya!:)

Won't be at the next few myself, boo hoo.

IMRA races are great fun. I did six or seven races last year in Asics Kayanos and another 3 or 4 in La Sportiva Crosslites. http://www.sportiva.com/products/prod/531

For some of the races the Kayanos were definitely the right choice as the terrain was fairly dry and it was nice to have the cushioning of the Asics. For mucky slippery races the La Sportivas were brilliant. The grip was unreal. I would definitely have slipped in a pair of road runners. That said, if you're on hard, dry ground (or rock) then the La Sportivas have very little cushioning.

As somebody else said you can go for trail runners which have most of the cushioning of a pair of road runners but with some decent grip.

Are there no rules regarding clubs in IMRA?? Is it a free for all i.e. you can join any group or club no matter what club you are actually in??

For instance if you are in CLonliffe, can you decide to run on a Boards team and then switch back to running for CLonleffe next race??

Not sure that that would make any sense and possibly makes a mockery of having team events in IMRA.

I know for AAI clubs you must sign for a club and can only switch after getting transfer forms signed by the 2 clubs involved.

The BHAA are now tightening groups that can run together i.e. one group of six per year which was announced at the Eircom race last week.

What are the rules in IMRA regarding clubs and running for clubs?? Can anyone clarify??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭Enduro

The club competition is simply a bit of fun added on to the main event (the race itself), to add a bit more interest, and give more people an opportunity to earn a prize.

IMRA doesn't bother weighing itself down in burocracy, it goes out running instead :)

Yes, you can put you name down for any club you want. If you talk nicely to the right race official, or the right techie, you can get your club changed. But they tend to be busy on race day, so will have a low tolerence to people bothering them with trivial requests when there is more important stuff to be done (Putting new runners into the database, timing the race, generating and uploading the results).

Very well put, as a similar question was asked regarding our team in the bhaa on a different thread and well that was the start of the end for Boards IT, so I'm now very weary when I see questions been posted like this. No offence intended eltuerto.

Excellent synopsis, and is no doubt one of the reasons why mountain races are so popular. There's a freedom felt when running in those hills, and IMRA's spirit very much complements that freedom.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭Peterx

plenty of burocracy in IMRA, just check our forum!
    Very little on raceday though:)

Next race is on 3 rock mountain in South dublin over 10km (or 7.8km short course) of fine hillrunning with some excellent views over different aspects of the city.
There will be most sorts of conditions underfoot so trailshoes are advised.
    come early, come often folks!

And we need to be sure Boards AC has a team at this one- so far Enduro, Slogger Jogger, donothoponpop, are up for it, so we need a few more in case of injury, unexpected, etc. Here's the details http://www.imra.ie/events/view/tab/details/id/580/

I know it clashes with Dungarvan 10, but anyone else who's interested, please come along! If you're not affiliated through IMRA already, put down "Boards AC" as your club when registering. We'll take on the big boys yet!

Just to confirm, at present I'm not planning on doing this. My foot is slowly improving but I won't be running on it until at least the end of the week and even then I won't be pushing it. 3Rock is a bit of an all terrain course so I'll hold off until Annacurra (spl ?) in a few weeks time which I think is more trailey.
