I think what smsmcarrick means is that the poor sound out of the NC10 is the fault of the speakers, not of the sound card.

Within reason- yes. The sound from the speakers is quite poor- especially as you raise the volume. Its far better from high quality headphones. The quality of the sound is definitively influenced by all the components involved though- a piss poor soundcard cannot be made sound like an Creative Xi-Fi Extreme, simply by adding decent speakers......

I've tried an external 5.1 USB card that I got on ebay on the NC10- thought it was a bit (not massively) better than the onboard sound. I've two or three different external cards here, and one Express Card sound card. There is a noticeable difference between the quality they have- but to be totally honest- I'd put most of this difference down to software and drivers, rather than any inherent massive difference in one piece of hardware versus another.

Its very much trial and error- what I find to be an exceptional or even only a satisfactory output, could be construed in an entirely different manner by someone else.......

I just went rootin' around in the Realtek controls and discover that the "wave" control in the audio master volume was set at 50% whilst all others were at 100%. Whacked the wave setting up to 100% and it's made a marked difference to the max volume available. Don't know how or why this was set at 50% as I had never been near those particular settings before now. Still wouldn't blow your brains out but much better than before!

This may sound, daft but why is there a price difference between the various colours? Is there some other spec that I'm missing here?

Have asked that before... no difference in spec.

    It is odd though.

Possibly.. but the blue is typically the most expensive. I doubt that's the most in-demand (even though that's the one I have) - I'd imagine the black is.

Officially the prices for all colours are the same. It just depends on when you buy it if you are stocking.

In case anyone else is interested I picked up the Microsoft Wireless Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 from this UK ebayer worked out at €28.50 delivered. Best price I could find.

A number of posters on sammynetbooks have recommended this mouse, some even suggest that it doesn't suffer from Bluetooth lag although I will believe that when I see it! I don't mind having to give it a shake to wake it up as long as it is as quiet in operation as reported.

I somewhat stupidly missed an opportunity there to offer that one to you .
In my experience with it, the mouse doesn't so much go to sleep as go into a coma. Though it was only after I got the Logitech one that I really grasped the difference in performance that way. However, the logitech one would also have been considerably dearer than the 28 you paid so hopefully that works out well now.

I strongly recommend this mouse. I purchased it together with my NC10 and it works smoothly without any problem. Battery life is also good. Small and good looking. I haven't seen any problem with the sleep mode.

    TheHut.

Between roughly €346 and €356 depending on which model you get (and that includes delivery).

To be honest, you were probably right to pay a bit more in case something went wrong, you know where to find Kin Mak! :D

And I got mine from €312 off TheHut about a month back.. but it was a month wait til I got it. The wait was mostly due to the courier though it must be said.

I'd normally buy off komplett, but they're out of stock. In fairness I bought a custom PC of elara about 4 years ago and when the PSU went about 2 years later they sent a replacement, straight away no questions asked.

What courier comapany do they use?

I'm expecting mine today hopefully - I cant track the package via TheHut can I?

They ship with UTi - you can ring them and they can track by surname and address (but they might require a 702 number if they can't track it.. might be able to get this from TheHut but I didn't need it).

    Unfortunately not.

I'm waiting on one from TheHut as well and when I asked for a VAT receipt and a tracking number this is what I got in response:

"We send all our items via royal mail so do not have a tracking number unfortunately, and we do not charge VAT on any of our items. Sorry for any inconvenience caused."

They're trading from outside the EU then are they? If so, Customs could intercept your NC10 and slap import duty / VAT on it.

Yeah, this was a concern of mine but the NC10's were shipped from Computer 2000 in Leicestershire.

hmm.. Me thinks they do charge VAT - at the UK standard 15% - and the person who wrote the email on behalf of TheHut got it wrong.

I ordered mine from thehut as well (for the fine price of €324 just after Christmas). It was shipped direct from the
distributor C2000 in England just like Basquille's.
Shipping from UK means it's treated as a purchase within the EU
    upon arrival in Ireland. ;)

It seems that when you place your order on thehut, they place the order
on the disti with instructions for the disti to ship direct to you. This can
save you a couple of days as some resellers will have C2000 ship to them
and then they will ship to you - I think elara did this with a recent Sony
    I ordered.

Based on what you guys say here about shipping by UTi perhaps (read I hope) the reply was wrong on both counts!
