Marriage legalities and forms are so messy!

My fiance and I are planning on getting married in the next year or two. Thanks to being students and this wonderful thing they call the recession...money is really hard to come by, so we're doing a loose plan of our wedding now to get an accurate budget going. Saving could be a problem!

I'm looking at all these marriage formalities and papers and la la la. It's all very messy and complicated...especially when he's from England and has no background in the church whatsoever. That and everything I'll need as proof will be comin from america. Fun!

I seriously plead ignorance on all of these things. From what I'm reading in this forum, most of what I'm reading up on is about the catholic church and being married by a priest.

We will probably be getting married in an evangelical church by an evangelical pastor. Do all of the same rules apply?? I haven't talked to the pastor yet as my fiance wouldn't be "christian", so I don't know if the pastor will even marry us in that case.

Sorry, I'm probably confusing you all in my own confusion!

If your not getting married as a catholic or in a catholic church you'll need to find out from the religious order that you are getting married under what documents and paperwork you need. If you dont want to bring the religion into it the civil documents are relatively straight forward to get sorted.

You'll need these civil documents done whether you are going down the religious route or not.
A civil marriage can be a relatively cheap affair if you wish it to be. There are some great tips in this forum for keeping costs down.
Just keep the main aim of getting married in perspective.

EDIT I didnt think there was too much to getting the civil forms done but it will probably be more complex for yerselves. Best to give the registrar a call and see what is needed. In general they are very helpful.
