Has anyone phoned to give their details for the SRD? It says only 2 guests per person, but my parents and "my nurse" would all really like to go and I don't want to look pushy asking for 3. Are they strict about the number of guests??

Is everyone bringing guests with them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 Toben

Okay, is it just me or is anyone else totally freaking out about not passing training? for s start I can't even run 3 meters, never mind miles! Plus we had to do a PDP and pass loads of tests....... I knew that part, but did not really think it would be that hard, god it sounds deadly.

Does anyone know if it is easy to fail? I kinda thought passing was easy enough, how wrong I seem to be

I really really want this job and if I pass vetting should be in a v good position (merit wise) but I must admit I worry a bit too and the tests etc would make me think similar! Do many fail etc? However, my mate who is in assures me, keep the head down, you got your degree etc he said to me, work hard and you'll be sweet he says! Here is hoping!:D I know though that I will work to the best of my ability if I am successful...Be a Grey man I hear helps to a certain extent! Happy re my fitness side of things as well....

i heard of one squad of about 55 people 5 or 6 years ago were everyone passed the exams, some after resits and some with help from their PDP folder which can get you a few extra marks. Only one person failed completely on the fitness side

    Hi Worried peeps

Just to clear a few things up....... Don't worry about the course, Alot of you have yourselves beat before you even started. Just put a hour or so in every night. Learn the definitions, Obey all commands and do all pre reads. It is not rocket science in GV. Yes everyone passes their resits. Honestly we have all been there with the worry etc, but really you will all be fine. Yes you will get a grilling here and there............take it on the chin and do not take it personally. As psni has stated many a time.......Play the game to win!.......you can bring a couple of people to srd as far as i remember( that's the way it was on my srn). As for fitness, They wanna see improvement. You only get 1 PE class a week so personal responsibility is a must. If anyone feels NOW that they are not fit, do somthing about it. Go out for wee short runs and build on them. Try doing a lot of wee sprints. 20- 30 mtrs. A lot is concentrated on your anaerobic ability. The long distance 5 k only happens 2 or 3 times i think and you need to do it in about 35 mins.
Above all enjoy it..........you will meet good peeps and some who you wont get on with.such is life......don't fall into the partying drinking messing about crew, it will get noticed..............and anyone worried about getting shouted at..........you will last a week. Get used to the idea of getting shouted at as a lot of policing belive it or not involves getting shouted at or hit or thrown ..you get the picture. SO they only do it to get u used to it.........as i said take it on the chin.let it fly over the head.whatever it takes( it's not personal).
    Hope this helps yas

    Alpha Bravo ...out

Hear Hear. Excellent post Alan. Your version pretty much matches what other officers have told me. And it's nothing too far from what you must expect if entering this line of business!!!

I just wish my vetting would clear so i can get to it!!!!! :D

yup excellent post alan, worrying is human nature, i'll echo what i've been told from serving officers:

all that is required is putting in the effort, if you put in the effort you WILL pass.

just to add to what alan said for people worried about starting.

its tough for a while and it takes a while to get used to having everything to do and no time to do it but you soon catch on.

Do all the pre reads and listen in class, some of the concepts they teach are made so much easier if you can grasp one tricky wee point in it.

by all means have a good time and get to the bar the odd night but dont make it a habit. after week 4 or 5 start to read code of ethics and human rights and you will be flying for the week 10 exams.

as soon as you get some work to hand in go and do it!!! this way it wont build up and you wont fall behind.

dont waste time if you get a class cancelled or you finish early, go get some work done or hit the books.

also stay grey as possible and dont give anyone a reason to think you are not working... and try to keep yourself sane and dont take it too seriously, theres more to life than bein a cop!!

    gudluck!!!

I did a wee drive-by today so I know where I'm going next Monday. It looks like a scary place, I was a wee bit intimidated.

This sounds a bit of a random question, but what is everyone bringing their stuff in?? I usually travel VERY light, but I'm thinking I'm going to need a suitcase for all the crap, I mean... stuff I'm bringing.

I don't want to turn up looking like Paris fecking Hilton with my fancy white suitcase to find everyone else with backpacks!! :D

Can we only bring one bag with all of our stuff, inc our irons etc?

If that is the case I am bringing a massive case filled.

No Panda pants, I was planning on bringing a case too, but I may have to re-think which one, as it appears I may need a huge one now!
