    They are true-temperament frets.

Its just a funky system that attempts to keep the guitar better in-tune all over the neck and in all keys. Although it looks frankly ridiculous, like an April fool :pac:

Google 'true temperament' and you will find their website.

Maybe the frets on the J Customs are fine the way they are.

How could it keep the guitar in tune if the fret wire is wonky???

The site explains it better than I could.

Basically a normal guitar will never be perfectly in tune with itself (in all keys and areas of the neck)....the reasons are way too complicated to get into.

So, there have been various methods to try and get closer that that 'in-tune' ideal. Subtle changes to the tuning, tuning differently for each key, Buzz Feiten system, compensated nuts etc. This system is just another one of those. Its extremely expensive and looks very strange.

Most players are happy enough the way it is tbh.

Listen to every album with electric guitar on it recorded in the last 60 years, if they sound ok to you then you can probably live without true temperament :)

Sounds great IMHO, but the guitar can only be properly in tune in one key AFAIK
