The problem is that nobody knows how to properly look after a battery. Do we discharge fully / charge at 40%? How do we break it in? Charge for 12 hours right out of the box? So much conflicting information and we get confused with the battery advice from other devices.

Percentages mean nothing unless it translates in to loss of time. Has anyone actually timed an NC10 from fully charged to fully discharged on that thread? No, they just spot check windows battery bar or some dodgy percentage program.

    QED.

To keep the battery running at optimum levels you should remove it when you are connected to the mains. There is no need to discharge and recharge, this will actually cause reduce the life of the battery. When not in use it's best to keep it at 70% and kept in a cool, dry location. I also believe it's best to run it down at least once a month, I must look into it though./

    Have fun !

Thanks Supercell. One thing missing though - Easy_Display_Manager2.2.10.1 (to make the function key shortcuts work).

Added this to your zip and uploaded here. Hope you don't mind!

I dont think the Battery life is gonna be great in this... :(
Big thread about Battery wear here is not inspiring confidence at all.

I've noticed as well a few weeks ago when i got it, by clicking 'max battery performance' (in Samsung battery manager) would give you close to 7hrs.
Now i've it charged 100% and its only showing 4hrs56.

I was the original started of that thread and a few weeks lter my wear was still the same,So the program might be inacurate..WIll d/l it again tonight

Guys, a crack has appeared on the black plastic in the bottom left corner of the screen. I have attached an photo. I'm not sure if the crack is going to get much bigger, if it didn't, I would be happy to keep the NC10, but if it does, will I be able to return the laptop? I got the laptop early/mid Nov from dabs.ie. I'm not sure if something like this would be covered by dabs.ie or Samsung as I have the laptop over one month. I always leave the laptop at home and it has never been put into a bag, so it's not damage from being carried around and put in and out of bags/covers.

I've got my new NC10 and am just getting used to it. Happy so far.
My question is - Is there a built-in modem or do I need to get a modem off one of the mobile providers?

No built-in modem. Has built-in WiFi though, or use a 3G dongle from the likes of Three etc..

Bought one from Currys in Newry for £322.

Installed Vista Ultimate SP2. Works fine, not sluggish at all. That is, until I use Skype. A Skype call (made or received) makes the whole thing prohibitively slow and basically unusable. Have to end task on Skype in order to get back to normality.

Haven't changed the 1gb RAM to 2gb yet though. Should this solve it?

Has anyone installed Vista and 2gb RAM and Skyping happily (video included)?

There is no built-in modem available in the UK or Ireland NC10, so you will need to get one from one of the mobile providers.

The only way in which you can buy an NC10 with a built-in modem would be to buy the version available in Poland, however, you will also need to sign up to a mobile contract for the modem usage.

Deliveries from the Hut take a long long time. Be very careful.

I followed that thread on Bargain Alerts before Christmas and spotted what
a mare Bas had. I reckon part of the problem was stock of the NC10 was
short right across most resellers in the UK and Ireland before Christmas.
These NC10s were flying out - long threads on AVforums UK with people
complaining about most retailers only having limited stock/colours and
    missing delivery dates.

I ordered one from thehut just after Christmas and I had it delivered within
6 working days. It cost me €324 and the saving over what the Irish resellers
were charging paid for my 2GB RAM, a new sleeve and a mouse.

The wife received a Littlewoods catalogue in the post recently. As I was flicking through it and gasping at the prices, I came across their netbooks for sale page. They are charging... wait for it... €499 for the NC10!!!!!:eek:

Makes PC World look positively bargain basement.

I bought from TheHut on Wednesday night. The sent an email yesterday saying that they had shipped it. I'll let you all know how I get on.

Gran, can you recommend a sleeve? Is it padded?

I've ordered a couple of sleeves from Deal Extreme to see which fits best
and offers the best protection. They should arrive next week and I'll post
    up feedback then.

    NOOB question!

I had ordered 2Gb of RAM for my NC10 while waiting for delivery, probably doesn't need it at all on XP for general use, but I decided I might aswell slap it in when I have it, so the question is are there any settings I should change to take best advantage of it?

    Cheers

Once it recognises the 2Gb, it should work fine. No need to go changing settings.

Excellent, it's one of the sleeves I have in the post at the moment from DX.

I upgraded mine during the week, as already said there is no need to
change any settings after installation. The NC10 automatically detected
the extra RAM - didn't even need to go into the BIOS.
Just watch the small panel on the back you're removing to access the
memory, it's a tad fiddly and it'll feel like you're going to break it removing it.
I used a business card to slide underneath and help with the removal.

To be honest with ye regarding TheHut, they did absolutely nothing wrong.

Their support wasn't great.. but it arrived with UTI (the couriers) on the 12th December and tried to deliver to me 3 times and there was no-one home each time. But never left a note or tried to contact me about it.

So I'd blame UTi instead of TheHut.

I've just installed Windows 7 on mine, seems to be running very well so far, although it hasn't picked up the ethernet, it did pick up the wireless fine. Aero is running nice and smooth. I did install 2Gb earlier, but it feels like it would run smooth without it. The trackpad is a little funny, it doesn't seem to take into account that it's relatively wide for it's height so moving left/right is slow while up/down is fast. Some function keys are working, others not. Other than that though is running excellently so far.

I'm going to try the Supercell/Benifa driver pack now and see how that goes.

Btw for anyone lucky enough to get the iso from MSDN/Technet, the installation is very simple. I wanted to keep XP and dual-boot (just in case), so the first thing I did was repartition the disk. I used Acronis but there's other free partition managers out there if you google. I reduced the size of my main partition by 30Gb leaving that much free space, then created a new partition in that space (you could get away with far less, but my installation currently takes up nearly 9Gb). Then I simply mounted the iso using daemon tools and the autorun prompted me to install. It asks if you want to upgrade (which I think only works going from Vista sp1) or do an advanced install. I chose advanced, picked my new D: drive to install too and then sat back and let it run. After some copying and reboots it came up with the usuall region settings, connect to wireless network and stuff like that, and that was that.

You can also partition using command prompt...If or the disk managment utility in xp

I don't think that lets you shrink an existing partition though?
