I, for one, miss Pineapple / Tropical Calippos.

Can't get them anymore - only Orange / Cola ones.... :(

I remember they used to be 40p, then they went up to 60.

Ah, they craftily changed the shape you see - a ploy to allow them to reduce the size

I remember Mars Bars being 30p, cans being 50p, Sparklers being the cheapest icepop at 9p, round lollipops being 3p, Chomp bars being 10p, Magnums being 85p when they first came out (and everyone thought they were a rip-off!), Cornettos being 60p. All these prices are mid 90s but I can't remember accurately when because I was a child

remember when HB sparkler ice lollys were 10p and they had loads of flavours like cola, strawberry and pear? and then you could get one's that had 2 or 3 colours in them. and then the feckers went and got rid of everything except for orange. ORANGE!!??!! my most hated of flavours... really, I mean fill 3 bowls with skittles, starburst and fruitpastiles at a kids party or whatever and your left with all the orange ones at the end. why won't they just cancel the orange ones... this has made me very upset :(

Are fat frogs still around? I havent seen them for ages!! Dont say theyve got rid of them again. Id be genuinly upset if they did, also I agree orange is a crap flavour, they should bring back sparklers or make lemonade flavour Ice pops thatd be good. In Australia they have schweppes lemonade ice lollys and they are the nuts!!!

I remember I used to get a can of Tanora, a packet of chipstix or monster munch (the proper monster munch that was out in the old days) a bar of chocolate and a banana split bar (they were 5p) for £1...

    Mr.Freezers were 8p
refresher sweets (the yellow ones with the sherbert in them) were 3p
    Sherbert Dibdabs were 12p
BlackJacks and PostmanPat's were 1p (remember going to the shop with 20p and getting LOADS of penny sweets? - can you even get penny sweets anymore??)
    I miss the pear sparklers...

Haha this forum is great. Sparklers! I got 20p after mass and I could buy a sparkler and 2 woppas or tangys or just penny sweets. And the local shop never used to count the penny sweets if you bought a lot so you ask for 30 penny sweets and they just throw in a few handfuls and there was always extra. :D

What about those sherbet things. They were in a yellow cardboard tube and they had a licquorice straw sticking out the top. I think they were 12p. Always fun to try and eat without choking on the sherbet. I think they were called licquorice fountains?

Oh yeah the sherbet ufos aswell. 2p each. :) Melt in your mouth.

I remember I asked my mam when she was gettin ice cream for me "are they called 99s cos theyre 99p?" and she said "no, thank god"

Yid be hard pressed to get one in this country for under 1.50 euros now

And is it just me or these days are chippers, ice cream vendors etc etc alot tighter with the amount they give you for the price? The amt of chips they give you, the height of your "large" ice cream, the amount of topping on your pizza, is it just me or did we actually get the amount we wanted back in the day

How much were drugs back in the rare oul times? Yokes were £25 a go when they came out first iirc. But then again in those days they were fierce things that kept you on a decent high for 8 odd hours, according to veteran men of rave Ive known

Chirst,I still remember when bus fair was 5p from Terenure to Ballyroan.
    Box of matches were 2p.
Cheapest price I can remember for smokes was 10 Rothmans for 47p.
Sorry these aren't 90's prices but late 80's but even the difference is crazy to see in a couple of years.
I did find a Tayto bag(empty) with a price of 2p on it. Found it in the 80's when Tayto cost 10p. Back of bag was completely faded so I didn't see any dates on it. Remember thinking at that time,I've never seen crisps that cheap.
Does anybody out there remember Tayto for 2p,if so year(s)
Reading this thread brings back some memories. :D:D

    I remember Tayto being 5p in 1975
I'd say they were 2p just after decimalisation, so 1971, maybe 1972?

    L'il Devil icepops were 3p in 1976.

Back then Ireland was a different place.

Yeah I can remember back to the 70's when Taytos were 4p and for some reason I remember seeing a wrapper from back then with 2 1/2p on the Tayto bag.
As for me, I moved to the US in 1992 and go back every two years now, but the cost of everything in Ireland has risen at an alarming rate. Also not in proportion to the price rises here in the US.

That seems cheap, but if that rate of inflation kept up, now they'd be about €10 a bag.

Okay, I know it was the 80s (1986 by my reckoning, I was nine years old, a beautiful summer when I started smoking, 'Spirit in the Sky' had just been announced as Number One on Top of the Pops) and 10 johnny blue cost 84p. Box of mathces 5p. Wintergreen chewing gums (like listerine) to get rid of smell of fags were 1p each.

A mars bar was 28p, a king size mars was 40p, a can of coke was 35p, a bottle of cadet was 15p, mr freezes were 7p (the ginormous mr freezes were 15p, don't think those wánky double-up ones were invented then).

I do remember playing in the local park and coming across an old pack of taxto Snax for 3d !!!!

Then in the 90s (probably around 91), 10 B&H were exactly a pound — I think that's when "going halves on fags" changed to to "going fifties on fags".

I remember £5 would see you straight when going out underage in the 90's. :D

25p bus fare each way into Town = 50p

10 silk cut and matches =£1

    bottles of dodgy beer only
underagers buy in an underage pub
    (South William) ;1 =£3

50p for misc. (save it for an extra =50p
pint next week or onion rings in
    the chipper or chewing gum)

The see-through was at the bottom, kinda centred, ya? Oh man, what I'd do for a pack right now (the way the used to taste) and walk around stinkin for the night!

Anyone remember Sam Spudz Blood 'n' Guts from the late 90s, they lived a short life ... fcukin gorgeous munchies though, presumably all the colouring and flavouring used to melt people's intestines though.

I remember when a 'Screwball' from the ice-cream man cost 30p (small cone was 25p), back in the early '90s. Now, a screwball will set you back over a €uro. C*nts.

It's a well known fact that "Ice-Cream Men" are the sole reason for inflation in this country. B*stards!

Ten cigs for £1.28, I remember when they increased the child's bus fare from 25p to 45p.
Bus fare into town was 45p. Tayto cost 30p. Meanies, Banshee Bones, Hot Lips all cost 10p. In the local supemarket you could get a can of coke for 45p it was 55 or 60p in the newsagents. Buying Dresses and cycling shorts with over the knee socks in No Name for a tenner. Good times :D

Oh God I feel old. I remember in the early 70s Tayto at 3p a bag (at the time Mr Spud crisps were only 2p) and the time when they changed the packaging of the Salt and Vinegar ones completely to a red pack - and they had the telly ad about Old Dan Salt and Victor Vinegar...
I remember you could get 30 Carrolls and a box of matches for exactly two quid in the 80s and a pint of Guinness at the Strand Hotel in Curracloe was
£1.03. And a bag of chips cost 25p for a large. Happy days.

OMG, this thread is 3 years old but interesting all the same. I remember Tayto crisps were 7p in 1978 and Mars Bars 10p. In 1989 I started college in London - Mars Bars at home were 30p but 20p sterling there, I was so excited I ate double the amount because they were cheaper!

I bought my first car in 1994 and petrol was 49.9p per litre, so it hadn't gone up too much in 2 years.
