NTL and monitored alarm

I recently moved to NTL broadband and phone. I have cancelled my BT broadband but still have the phoneline as I want to port the number over.

The problem is that I have a monitored alarm. Not with Eircom Phonewatch, but with a crowd called Bell Communications. NTL said I need to cancel my monitored alarm before they can port the number, and after doing some searching around the problem is something to do with the alarms modem transferring data over the NTL digital phone line to the monitoring company won't work because of the way the digital switch or something  transfers packets blah blah blah.

I'm wondering what are my options? Can I remain monitored in anyway with NTL? Or do I need to get a GSM type device for my alarm, which won't use any phoneline? If so, do I go back to the guy who installed my alarm, and is it plenty of mullah?

    Or are there other options?

It is unlikely that your alarm will work reliably, if at all over VoIP ( NTL ) as
there is potential latency and packet loss.

The dialler works similarly to a modem.

Also in the event of a power loss your NTL phone adapter will probably power down leaving you without a line.

The GSM backup is probably your only option, or cancel monitoring altogether....

The GSM units are quite expensive and would probably be best fitted by your installer. At least if anything goes wrong you have some comeback.
