Is intrepid ibex (8.1) essentially the stable release of hardy heron (8.04).
i thought that was how the numbering works?

No, the number is based on Year.Month.

8.04 was released in April 2008, 8.10 in October.

Someone said the LTS (Long Term Support) releases are always named after birds, dunno if that's a rule or just coincidence.
