multiplication tables learning

    Hi
    can anyone recommend a good way to teach a 9 yr old multiply tables.
    is there a good book or cd i can get?

    get hundred sqs, colour the steps ,ie for 2 x 2,4,6,8
    next one 3s, 3,6,9,

    etc..then do lots of skip counting.

    Also remind her/him 2 x 3 =3 x 2..helps having to learn loads and loads of facts!!

    A game in school we did (though there was a group) was that you clap when the answer is supposed to be.

    So for example - 2 times tables
    Child: 1
    Child: *clap
    C: 3
    C: *clap

    Works best in a group (though there was lots of pressure as the winners got stars for that "homework off" table :D)

    Try this sequence:

    Teach 2x 4x 8x first
    grouped as numbers in answers appear again & again


    then 3x 6x 9x
    grouped as numbers in answers appear again & again


    then teach 7X


    10X 11X 12X have already been covered in above except for last three in each

    oh ye these are good tips thanks a mill :D
    so hard to get her to concentrate so i'll try turn it into a game
    and i like the coloured squares idea thank you
